I am intellectual, crafty, and secretly romantic.

My Self-Summary

I'm a student in my last year at Columbia, studying comp lit and generally thinking about the world from as many angles as possible. I obviously like to read, but I'm also addicted to the TV (or, more accurately, hulu) which may cause some to turn up their noses, but really--who doesn't love the escapism of the silver screen? I use my TV time to work on my various crafts, including knitting, spinning, cooking and baking. I speak French and Arabic, and value an interest in travel/languages as a hallmark of genuine curiosity.

I’m really good at

making or buying gifts for people. I'm not the best shoulder to cry on when things are going shittily, but I value my friendships very highly and go to great lengths to find meaningful things that really speak to the experiences we've shared together.

The first things people usually notice about me

hmm...I don't know. I guess I usually wear bright colors or big jewelry, and people usually say something about that.

The six things I could never do without

1--my computer/the internet. It's how I keep myself informed, entertained, and in touch with the people I care about.

2--leisure time. I can't function without downtime, and I'm a big believer in the lazy Sunday...and Friday, and Saturday.

3--music. In the right circumstances, it can affect us on a deeper level than most anything else.

4--a project. Whether it's an upcoming paper or a sweater I'm knitting, I need something concrete to be working on so I can distract myself, daydream, and come up with new ideas.

5--my down comforter. Best snuggler ever!

6--public transportation. I hate driving with a passion, and I'm a pretty big fan of the environment, so I need some sort of subway/bus network to help me get around. This is actually one of the main reasons I moved to New York.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

representations. How we represent ourselves and each other, how the media represents the world around us, how literature, tv, movies and more represent cultural norms and practices, etc. If there's one thing I firmly believe it's that nothing can be taken at face value.

On a typical Friday night I am

up around Columbia, watching a campus band or cooking dinner with friends. I'd like to be doing other things however, and this is where you come in.

You should message me if

you want a partner for exploring New York City, you're as happy staying in as you are going out and strive to balance the two, you've graduated from some sort of higher-learning institution and consider yourself an intellectual.
