My Self-Summary
GOBBLE GOBBLE. with but a single hilight action and a single touch of the "backspace" key, i've decided to eat the sloppiness that once lived in my self-summary.
21 june 2009
i used to be sliqueslaque but i'm not anymore.
anyway, this will serve as a poor kind of self summary, for now:
-i enjoy helping others
-i think i'm a little standoffish
-probably 25% of "my end" of an average conversation consists of questions
-i like cats
-i like music
-i like playing musical instruments
-i like exploring
-i enjoy learning
-i enjoy teaching
-i like participating on either end of psychoanalysis
-i like studying faces
-i like throwing darts
-i like throwing frisbees
-i like throwing just about anything across a room in a game of "catch"
-i like bowling
-i would like to play more ping pong / table tennis
-i like hiking
-i like driving
-i like cycling through portland
-i like jet-skiing
-i like water-skiing
-i play board games
-i play cards
-i enjoy thrift shopping
-i love finding useful free stuff in the trash
-i'm tolerant
-i don't care for "good manners"
-i'm hard to offend
-i think i figured out the most common reason i offend people. it's 'cause I'M hard to offend, and too soon i expect others to be the same way. probably the 2nd most common is just misunderstandings, and the third is because i'm actually being offensive (by my own standards, which rarely happens anymore).
-i'm madly in love with a city (yes, portland)
What I’m doing with my life
(maybe this is where i should put the occasional updates.)
29 oct. 09
i moved 22 days ago, by the way. i really like the new house and the people in it. the other day, my two roommates and i combined efforts, and together we made a huge herb & veggie soup/stew. and salad, and garlic bread. we're so communal. it's lovely.
oh, and now i'm about 80% finished painting my bedroom. woot.

i got bored in the middle of the day yesterday, and didn't want to hang out at home because a certain someone was home. so i decided to take my cat for a walk. this usually doesn't work very well, but this time i got it to work.
first i was saying "no" when he started walking too far in one direction, too close to the street. "no" made him wait, and start sneak-walking away like two minutes later. then i had an idea.
i had to yell at him in cat talk. i hissed. his ears folded. i swiped at him. he pawed back, with ears folded. i hissed again, about a minute later, just to remind him i hadn't forgotten and was still angry with him for not obeying my "no."
he stayed still for about 6-8min., and then started walking the other way. :) this was acceptable!
then on the way home i said, "come on, fuzzhead." he took his time, but he did ... he followed! he followed me all the way home.
it was actually better than my experiences walking dogs.
so that's yesterday. today i went with ann, met up with trish, and looked at houses. !!! we're excited.
I’m really good at
STARING.
showing people love despite the fact that i'm not in love with them.
The first things people usually notice about me
i'll have to start asking people this question so i have a legitimate answer.
-my red hoodie
-my eyes (2)
-no B.O.
-my (lack of) hair
-my orange shirt
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
books. . . . back in elementary school (maybe first grade(?)), pretty much every time our class would go to the library, i would pick out a book from the blue bug series. a few years later, one teacher introduced us to shel silverstein, and books like "a light in the attic," and "where the sidewalk ends." to this day, that's still my favorite poetry, and perhaps the only poetry i like.
in middle school i got into reading middle-school fiction. i think i had a few "baby sitters club" books, and maybe something like "goosebumps" or something? i don't remember. something kinda creepy/scary, i guess.
in high school, i didn't really like reading, but i do remember requesting & receiving as a gift, a book on buddhism.
these days i pretty much only read non-fiction. i'm currently reading a people's history of the united states, by howard zinn. this is the third time i've attempted reading it, and so far it's the furthest i've gotten into the book. i quite like it, and him.
other books i like include why i am not a christian, by bertrand russell, and 50 things you're not supposed to know, which is a disinformation book. i'm not sure it has an author listed. hm.
"people of the lie" by m. scott peck was pretty good, too. it definitely deserves an honorable mention. unfortunately, though, i lent that book to either my x-roommate or x-neighbor-down-the-hall and never got it back. :<
movies. . . . you've probably seen more movies than i have, and those that i HAVE seen, you've probably seen more often. everybody's always surprised when i tell them i haven't seen some great movie they love.
don't get me wrong, though; i like to watch movies. i just don't go out of my way to do so. the only genre i know of that i usually don't like is horror. note: some exceptions may apply.
i only like two movies well enough to quote them: pulp fiction & office space. other movies worth noting, though, are: zeitgeist, mulholland drive, bowling for columbine, killer nerd, groundhog day, and fear & loathing.
music. . . . now this one's by far the hardest to narrow down. i was a radio DJ for 9 years. i know & love a lot of music. my first favorite band ever was the bangles. then i remember my old friend marcia & i made up a dance to this song "DOA" by bloodrock. i really liked that song. my father's the one who introduced me, believe it or not. after that, during freshman year in HS i became a pretty big fan of green day. make fun all you want, but that's what spawned my interest in music.
looking back, the bands that most influenced me are operation ivy and the moldy peaches.
other gems include: psychic tv, eyeball skeleton, gogol bordello, the pixies, crass, the temple of bon matin, new order, pinback, sun ra, huun huur tu, tom waits, the low budgets, and maybe more. if you know anything about music, we can probably bond on some level.
food. . . . african pineapple peanut stew is my favorite dish. other good foods include vegetable lasagna, spicy black bean & pineapple burritos, scallion pancakes, and spaghetti & mushrooms in a garlic butter sauce with a topping of grilled vegetables, as available at the spaghetti warehouse in philadelphia, PA.
that said, i like all kindsa foods, though my diet is mostly vegetarian. probably my favorite food ethnicities are mexican and greek.
...and yes, i'd attempt cannibalism if the opportunity presented itself. actually had a dream about it a while back.

my happiness score:
Highly satisfied
People who score in this range love their lives and feel that things are going very well. Your life is not perfect, but you feel it is about as good as life gets. Furthermore, just because you are satisfied does not mean you are complacent. In fact, growth and challenge might be part of the reason you are satisfied. For most people in this high-scoring range, life is enjoyable, and the major domains of life are going well - work or school, family, friends, leisure, and personal development.

i am sO lazy at responding to long emails! they're too overwhelming and i don't have the attention span to type out a response for a half hour straight.
You should message me if
-we have a chance of getting along as friends.
-you're more learn-ed than i am, and can school me on things that matter.
