My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
May/June 2014 update:
I am very busy right now looking for work and getting ready to move to the Clearwater/St. Pete area of Florida. I plan to be moved by sometime in September. Consequently, I am not on here very often and I don't have a whole lot of time to meet new people.

If we are already connected, please continue to write. Otherwise, I will probably not respond simply due to a lack of time.

Libertine. My definition: someone who embraces their passions, sexual and otherwise. Libertines seek to live life like no one is watching.
My passions: nature, knowledge, adventure, travel, laughter, sex, the ocean, and music. (The order varies.)

I am a 49yo white female, Irish ancestors, (red hair, green eyes), medical social worker, amatuer naturalist, multi-media aspiring artist. Lover of: eclectic music, poetry, antique glass, the Ocean, travel, dreaming, afternoon naps, week days off from work, my pugs, my friends, treasure hunting for antiques in thrift shops/garage sales, watching storms from the porch, Science, observing nature, warm rain, talking about the important things in life with friends, good food, big red wines, snorkeling, beachcombing on an empty stretch of beach, laughing, giving compliments, the smell of fresh cut grass, clove cigarettes, dusk...

My interests are varied and it is a pleasure getting to talk with other people who are interested in similar topics. I love to learn new things. I am fascinated by nature, especially anything to do with the ocean. The connection between how we use language and how we think is endlessly interesting. I care for people who are dying, so I think about death and how it defines our choices a fair amount of the time. Evolution and the interconnected nature of reality, how everything is related in some subtle but important way to everything else, amazes me on a daily basis.

I care about what happens in the world, so I try to stay modestly informed about world events. I lean to the left in social issues and I am somewhat of a centrist on economic issues. I don't need to talk politics with people I meet, but people who think Fox News is fair and balanced will not enjoy my company.

I love sarcasm, especially the thoughtful/amusing awareness of just how ridiculous life can be. I am a materialist in the deeper sense of the meaning; everything is based on the material world. Rather consistently, I am an atheist. I always enjoy meeting or connecting with others who view the world through a similar lens. I am not, however, arrogant or pushy about my belief system.

You can learn a lot about me by reading my questions with explanations.

ENFP if you are interested. (Myers-Briggs Personality profile.)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work for a large nonprofit hospice. My job is intense and unpredictable. I value private time and time to be creative. I think of myself as an extroverted introvert; I am quite happy being extroverted, but I need time alone to recharge and be creative.

I try to be aware of making time to enjoy the world. I will pull over to watch the clouds, I really do stop to smell the flowers, I try to give compliments rather than complain, and I am always looking for beauty in the world around me. (And I find it, all the time.)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Talking about the things that most people are afraid of: sex, drugs, and death. Traveling off the tourist path. Identifying things in nature: shells, wading birds and raptors, whales and dolphins, and odd animals of which you have never heard. (I think gerboas are one of the coolest mammals ever. Look them up and tell me if you disagree.) Keeping secrets. Comforting and affirming those in distress. Loving the world.

My voice. I wear bright clothes and a lot of black. I don't wear makeup.

I used to read all the time. Now I spend most of my former reading time in my small art studio. I am an aspiring multi-media artist. Which means I collect lots of odd/old things, take them apart, and make something different. A fair amount of what I make falls into the steampunk category. It keeps me fairly sane to have a creative outlet.

Having said that, I still love space opera, Neil Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, hard sci fi, and good science writing for non-scientists. I have a particular fondness for Barry Hugart, esp. Bridge of Birds. I am in love with David Quammen's writing. Poetry, especially Mary Oliver, Rilke, Tennyson, Blake...

I don't watch television, except when my friends get me hooked on a series. I loved The Sopranos and Fringe. I like British productions like Sherlock, costume dramas, animation, and documentaries on Netflicks on ocassion. I usually have not seen the movies nominated for the big awards.

Music is exceptionally important to me. I listen to a pretty broad spectrum from singer/songwriters; trip hop/electronica/trance/EDM; jangle rock like Mumford and Sons and The Wallflowers; Ben Harper; U2; alt country like Cowboy Junkies or Jakob Dylan; Johnny Cash; Queen; Tracy Chapman; Rush; Great Lake Swimmers; Bach; Celtic (traditional and Celtic rock); outside of the box bands like Calexico, The Piano Guys, Afro-Celt Sound System, Macklemore... I grew up in the 80's, so I enjoy 80's and 90's and 2000's stuff, especially alternative rock. I am currently discovering west coast underground hip hop, like Blue Scholars, and I am loving it. I try to avoid obnoxious (sexist, gangsta) rap and conservative mainstream country music. I listen to a fair amount of music without lyrics like spanish guitar, neo-flamenco, jazz, and world music.

I know all the words to classic rock songs, but I prefer to listen to things from more recent decades most of the time. Music makes me really happy, especially live music.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My phone, music, red wine or scotch, clove cigarettes, my favorite paint brushes and laughter. (Yes, I know I can actually live without these *things* but they contribute to my happiness.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Time... Living and dying well. The choices I have made. Words and language. The negative value of regret. Adventures! Dreaming about the Sea. The importance of touch and intimacy. Why so many men in their 20's are contacting me...???
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Doing Nada. Which is the reason I am here.

What I am looking for: to connect with men or women who are interested in getting together a couple of times a month to go dancing, walk in nature, talk about whatever comes to mind, enjoy wine or other mood enhancers, make a meal, or a hundred other things. I have an adventurous spirit. (And I really love to dance.)

My perfect evening would include great sex, when both parties were comfortable and agreeable. I am being an optimist and hoping for both good company and sex.

I am fairly open on age, but honestly tend to prefer partners close to my age or older than me. Thirty is really my limit; younger than that and I start to think "you could be my child." (Not an aphrodisiac for me.) If I am intrigued by a person younger than 40, it is not due to age, but because they have something interesting to say. Blank profiles are just deleted.

Smart is sexy. A message that is a full paragraph is a pleasure. Geeky is cool. I will always reply to a message that looks like you actually read my profile and we are looking for the same things.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I think that when I am on a beach- from Nova Scotia to South America, in any weather- I am my truest self.
And that is a 12 year old tomboy, amazed by the world.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
*You understand that I am an atheist. If mainstream/theistic religion is important to you, we probably will not get along.
*You understand that I am not long-term material. I am not looking to be someone's "one and only." And I will be moving to Florida in late 2014.
* You have completed a profile and we have a match over 80%. It just makes life easier to connect to others who have similar values.
* You have something interesting to say. "Hi" or "How are you?" is not enough to interest me. Tell me something about yourself.
* You live locally.
* You are open, genuinely alive, love to laugh, engaged in the world, adventurous, smart, and kind.
* You value making a mental connection along with a physical connection.
* You are over 30. I just can't go there... :)

I primarily access this site via phone, which makes a reply somewhat of a chore. I often answer messages a few days later, even if I have signed in since a message arrived. This site is a means to an end for me, rather than something I really enjoy. My life is busy, so my time here is limited. Please do not take this personally.
