I am an early riser, a trail runner, a computer programmer, a snowboard rider, a globe trotter, a whiskey drinker, and from time to time (despite my picture, not at the moment), a beard-wearer. I'm no flower child, but I am more interested in the journey than the destination. I don't sweat the small stuff, and sometimes I don't sweat the big stuff either. As the New Yorker cartoon said, I suffer from accurate self-esteem. I believe dharma trumps karma.
I'm introverted but not shy. I'm half German but sometimes it feels like more. I sing along with the music at work. I am an adept conversationalist, and a competent writer.
I like running flat terrain, but I'm better at hills. I like my snow steep and deep. I don't always take the shortest route, but I don't get lost. I don't panic.
I prefer good food to fancy food, and would rather eat at Olecito than Ole. I'm not hopeless in the kitchen but I cook off-recipe, with mixed results. I like a good beer, not too hoppy, a good petite syrah when it's cold or a fino sherry when it's hot, and from time to time, an Islay whisky, typically neat.
I like my job; I don't love it. But I can say computers, and the mathematics that makes them work, are probably a lot more interesting than you think. I am fascinated by them and by the impact they have on society.
My preferred layer of culture is upper-middlebrow. I enjoy the everyday arts of novels, movies, and music, but better when an unexpected brilliance shines out of the haze. I am a (video) gamer - but before you scoff, listen to my lectures on the sawtooth progression or ludic dissonance!
I love traveling, and generally prefer a little adventure in my tourism. I managed to heli-snowboard at Whistler and hang glide, badly, in Albuquerque in two recent trips. Local travel in New England is always enjoyable in the warmer months. There are few things I enjoy more than drinking a good beer in the sunshine, listening to the seagulls in some quaint harbor.
I'm hoping to find someone thoughtful and witty, and kind-hearted (though a certain amount of cynicism is healthy these days). Somebody who, like me, enjoys exercise (though not to excess), time spent with friends and family, and exploring the world. Someone with whom I can share the project of making life better, one moment at a time.
