I was a nerd before being a nerd became synonymous with quirky. For
example, I walked around as a little kid writing in a notebook
labeled "Space and Time" when I wasn't busy watching Star Trek or
being introverted.
I've grown to be too well-adapted to feel truly at home with old school nerds, but not social enough to feel comfortable with people in general.
The best compromise I found was a group of punk rockers who didn't give a shit about who I was as long as I was a good person. Those friendships are still the most intimate and meaningful relationships I've ever had in my life, and I'm hoping that one day I'll find a similar group of kindred spirits. (Between you/me, I doubt they'll be the kind of people who talk about "kindred spirits".)
