My self-summary
Let's see... I love my neighborhood and adventuring, both with my work and with friends. I also enjoy root beer and music- playing, watching, and singing in the car. I've lived in Chicago almost 6 years now, and I am a big fan of the midwest. I'm originally from Virginia, but I have a lot of family history in Chicago and I've been finding different ways to feel at home here. I like to surround myself with people I feel connected to. I love getting to see the depth and compassion in others, and I feel lucky that my job lets me do that. I have some secret talents which make people say things like "Darts... of course you're good at darts."
What I’m doing with my life
I coordinate an after school program for teens, helping students get ready for college and going on college visits and many other adventures. I think a lot about ways of listening, structural injustices, and possibilities for change, especially in the school system. On the weekends, I like to celebrate shabbat in some way, hopefully one that involves singing and baking bread.
I’m really good at
Understanding other people's feelings, finding joy in small moments, talking on the phone, bowling for style points, long and winding discussions, being on time, laughing until I can't breathe.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books are the one thing that I will buy impulsively. I especially like memoirs and non-fiction about US social history or youth development.

Movies: I love seeing movies in the theater. All time favorites: Fried Green Tomatoes and Whale Rider.

TV: Friday. Night. Lights.

Music: I like music I can belt out in the car and that tells a story. Some favorites are older Sugarland, the Shondes, gospel Elvis, showtunes, and JoDee Messina. I like to re-imagine pop country songs, and prepare for my next karaoke performance.

Food: Delicious. I like cooking for dinner parties. My favorite Chicago restaurants are Noon O Kebab and Tre Kronor.
The six things I could never do without
- Laughing with friends
- Being really close with my family (thanks AT&T)
- Conversations that make me feel like I just discovered something new about the world
- A job I don't have to dress up for
- Everyday adventures
- Temporary tattoos
I spend a lot of time thinking about
- Who wants to start a weekly shabbat potluck with me entitled "Shabbat-luck"
- How I should get a dog. Then, soon after, how I probably shouldn't get a dog yet
On a typical Friday night I am
Breathing out from a whirlwind week. Going to Shabbat services. Sometimes perfecting "Eye of the Tiger" at a Karaoke night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
As a fourth grader, I accidentally shaved off my eyebrows because I doubted that razors really worked. Three weeks of penciled eyebrows proved me very, very wrong.
