My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an American writer and editor, living in Milan, Italy. I like photography and cook often (see my photos). I do not like watching sports, but I do like to ride my bike and sometimes I play tennis.

I'm looking for a woman who is calm, but gets excited about life. I want a woman who has her projects and goals in life, but who encourages me in mine. I want to be the head of her fan club, and I want her to be my biggest fan. I like intelligent women: I want metaphorically a chess player, not a checker player and definitely not a tic-tac-toe player. I've been too often with the latter two: they're boring no matter how beautiful or how good they are at sex. Most of all, I want a woman who knows herself well, who is mature, and who knows what she wants in life.

♣ Clarity of thought in a woman and the ability to express herself is sexy, above all else, for me. ♣
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm living in Italy and writing books and decorating my apartment and getting better at photography and cooking. I've been taking private cooking lessons in my home. I'm not doing this for a career change, though. I don't like to cook. I just like to eat well and want to learn to cook better for that purpose.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm good at talking--this is probably why I am a writer. Conversely, I'm good at listening. I'm also good at making others feel good about themselves. It's easy since I think they're all wonderful.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
It depends on how you first see me. If I'm a stranger passing you on the street, you may notice I have no hair on my head--I hope not, but that may be true. If you meet me, though, you might notice I am silly. If you hear me talking to a friend, you might notice I am funny. If you ask me questions when we first meet, you may notice that I'm intelligent. But not bald, please: learn to focus on the positive things about a person.

Favorite Movies
The Lady Eve--it's about a strong woman. I like strong women.
Casablanca--it's about passionate love regardless of the rules.
Great Expectations--it's beautiful, romantic, and about undying love.
The Thirty Nine Steps--this is a classic thriller.
Michael Clayton--I'm not sure why I like this full-length Mercedes commercial, but I do.
1941--it's spectacularly humorous.
O Brother, Where Art Thou?--this is another Preston Sturgess film; it's artistic and hilarious.
The Big Lebowski--this movie is just fabulous.
An Education--it's about a young woman who is unassuming, but trumps all of the men around her. I like that.

Favorite Things I Cook
• Lasagna--my own recipe, with or without meat (see photos)
• Cheesecake (see photos)
• Chocolate Cream Pie (see photos)
• Fried Cod with a Lemon Capper Sauce
• Sautéed Shrimp with Pasta made with a Cream Sauce

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I've altered this category. First I list the things that I prefer never to be without. Then I list things I never want in my life.

Things I Always Want in my Life
• Love and Romance--without it, life is terribly dull.
• Affection--this is critical.
• A Pleasant Home--it's how I feel safe.
• A Connection to the Internet--it's my Deus Ex Machina.
• Iced Tea and good American Coffee--I drank iced tea in my bottle as a baby, and had coffee for breakfast starting when I was five.
• CNN News--I'm always curious about the world.

Things I Never Want in my Life
• Football and almost all Professional, Team Sports--I'm not a team player and find watching sports pretty boring.
• Beer and Getting Drunk--I drink wine and the like, but not much.
• To Fight with Someone I Love--it's a miserable thing to do.
• Someone who is with me for the Wrong Reasons--this has happened to me many times.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
It may seem strange for a heterosexual man to say this, but I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about how to furnish and decorate my apartment. I moved into my current apartment two summers ago and I'm still buying furniture, lamps, and pillows. I'm still building and fixing and installing and painting and organizing. I enjoy it and I think the results are good. Look at my photos if you want to see some of the rooms.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Cooking dinner for friends--at least I should be, but it doesn't happen often. Actually, I'm never sure when it's Friday or what day is today. There are times when I don't realize it's night time or day time. Clocks and calendars are for those other people; they're background noise. This is one thing that's usually good for me about a woman: she introduces structure and rhythm to my life.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'll just mention some private, but silly things that I do when watching movies at home, alone. I cry when I watch certain romantic or sentimental movies (e.g., "Love Actually", "August Rush") during key scenes. When I watch scary movies, at intense moments, sometimes I run out of the room yelling, "Oh! Oh!" and then hide around the doorway and peek back at the TV until the scene is over. When people kiss in a movie, unless they're in love and the moment is passionate, I cover my eyes and say aloud, "Oh! I don't want to see them smooching!" I guess in some ways I will always be a boy.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
Send me a message if you have something to tell me about yourself or want to say something about me--something nice. Please don't send me a generic message or a simple one-word greeting or a combination of characters meant to indicate an emotional reaction. And don't write me unless you expect me to write you plenty in response. I'm a writer. Writers like to write.
