nerdy, geeky, and dorky
My self-summary Propose an edit
I really wish it were possible to find an attractive way to spin
the fact that I'm a total nerd.
I am classified as an INTJ, and if you've spent more than 5 minutes
with me, you would know that's dead-on accurate. I'm pretty
introverted (around strangers, anyway. With friends I'm usually the
making jokes and having a good time), and I really don't like the
whole bar/club scene.
I love puns and corny jokes. Like this one: "So these two fish are
in a tank. One of them turns to the other and says, 'hey, how do
you drive this thing?'"
I don't want to sound like a grammar nit (I hate those people), but
I cringe when I come across people who still don't know the
differences between your/you're and their/there/they're. It also
saddens me to see words like 'definately', 'rediculous', and
'independant'. Just today an English teacher at our school sent out
an e-mail informing us of the daily 'bullitin'. Sigh.
In fact, if I've sent you a message before, and you're not
interested, but you don't want to say flat-out that you're not
interested, just send me back a reply filled with
grammatical/spelling errors - that's a sure-fire method to ensure
that you'll never hear from me again.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I just finished purchasing my own home and I love it!
I am about to start my 7th year of teaching high school math. I
love teaching,
and I love (most of) my kids, though not in a 'I'll get thrown in
pound-me-in-the-ass federal prison for 20 years if they find out'
kind of way.
I pick up random hobbies/interests at different phases in my life.
In college it was computer gaming, then it was poker, then
Scrabble, and now it's Guitar Hero. I wish I could say I had more
exotic interests, but then I would just be lying to you.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Although I'm a nerd, I can definitely hold my own in most athletic
endeavors. I can throw a tight spiral. I have a good jump shot. I
can make consistent contact on the 80mph batting cages. I bowl about a 175
average...
...on the other hand, I can't skate (skateboard or skates), I suck
at swimming, I can't drive stick, and you'd probably have an
aneurysm if you ever saw me try to dance.
I'm a Guitar
Hero. But really, it's not even about me. It's about the music,
man.
I'm good enough at Scrabble that I'd get made fun of by casual
players, but bad enough that I'd get made fun of by expert
players.
I'm a really fast typist.
I can quote 'Dumb & Dumber' pretty
much line for line.
I'm extremely good at being punctual/dependable. Are you also
punctual/dependable? Let's be friends! Are you not? Then beat it,
you flaker.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
The fact that I look like I should still be in high school (that's
what most of my students say, anyway).
Other than that though, people usually don't notice anything about
me, literally. I tend to blend into the background, observe people,
and listen. I usually end up catching all the gossip about
everyone, but no one assumes I do because I don't really say
anything. I guess in a way that's kind of creepy now that I think
about it.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books - Any David Sedaris works, Freakonomics,
The End Of
Faith, Baseball Between the Numbers, The Tipping Point, Blink,
Sex, Drugs &
Cocoa Puffs (actually I guess all of Klosterman's books have been good),
pretty much any interesting nonfiction. I like books that
illustrate how things work, or chronicle interesting people's
lives.
Movies - Dumb & Dumber,
Twilight
Samurai, Zero Effect, Rounders, Sneakers, Bus 174, Ocean's 11,
Before
Sunrise/Sunset, Memento, Fresh, The Big Lebowski, Kiss Kiss
Bang Bang, Good Will Hunting, Any MST3K
Television - The only show on that I watch religiously every week
is The Office.
Other shows that I love but usually watch on DVD are: House, Curb
Your Enthusiasm, The Wire, Oz, Lost, Seinfeld, Quantum Leap,
MacGyver, The Office (BBC Version), Extras
Music - I used to listen to exclusively rap/hiphop/r&b, but
after the golden years of the early 90's, it's gotten worse every
year. So I listen to a lot of indie and classic rock nowadays, and
pretty much anything that is upbeat and groovy. Also, Guitar Hero
has opened me up to music I never would have thought I'd like (e.g.
Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Judas Priest). I've tried listening to
country (my sister is a huge fan), but I can't stand it.
Food - Pretty much anything. I really can't think of any foods I
hate.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
1) Comfortable earplugs
2) Garden Salsa Sunchips
3) A job (or something to do... I get bored easily)
4) my computer/internet
5) my Nintendo
DS, Wii, and
Xbox 360 (yea I
know that's three things, but I'll cheat and file them all under
'video games')
6) Scrabble
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Everything. I just like thinking about things. Like, is it possible
for born-blind people to think in color? Do they have concept of
what color even is?
How does the iPhone know whether you're holding it landscape-view
or portrait-view?
How do car odometers work? If it's just based on the axle spins,
couldn't you just get really big-ass tires and get more mileage out
of it?
Why are DVDs sold in much larger packages than CDs, even though the
two types of disc are exactly the same size?
How does this glade plug-in I have that automatically turns on in
the dark work?
... and stuff like that. Yea I know I could probably find these
answers on google, but it's more fun to try to think about them
yourself.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Probably doing one or more of the following, in descending order by
preference:
a) relaxing at home reading a book or watching a DVD.
b) relaxing with friends and playing board games like Scrabble or Rummikub or playing Wii/Xbox 360.
c) out late at night driving around on the streets/freeways going
nowhere in particular.
d) out on a hot date!
.
.
.
y) disemboweling myself with a butter knife.
z) at a bar or a club.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
There are 4 somewhat private statements below. However, only 3 of
them are true:
1) I own a winning record as an amateur boxer.
2) I have been a model for a university art class.
3) I have been prominently featured in a pornographic film.
4) I have committed a breaking & entering.

"A discussion is an exchange of knowledge; an argument is an
exchange of emotion" - Lori Stephens
I LOVE discussions. I HATE arguments. I'd love to find people with
whom I can have great discussions. Also, I'd love to make your
acquaintance if:
- you just want a Scrabble partner.
- you know the answer to any of the questions in my 'I spend a lot
of time thinking about' section.
- you're the type of person who actually enjoys being corrected if
you're wrong, and also the type of person who won't be too shy to
tell me when I'm wrong or just being an idiot.
- you're not overly religious.
- you like thinking, laughing, and debating.
- you just want to chat. :-)
