Behind these amber eyes is a warm-hearted, spirited woman who is
seeking to awaken a long-lost passion through new love, but in the
meantime is also genuinely happy, optimistic and loving. For the
most part, I know myself pretty well, am confident, intelligent,
financially secure and well-educated. It’s difficult to know where
to start with online dating, but OK Cupid seemed like the right
beginning if one is beginning again, as I am. So here goes- I’m the
owner of a curious mind, and that has led me down so many different
paths in life that there is a lot to say, though this is not the
time or place since even a quick overview would be longer than
would be appropriate for this page. I like good conversation and by
that I mean dialogue more than monologue, to borrow from another
writer, about almost any topic that is not too specifically
entrenched in one area of expertise. I think analytically,
intelligently (usually) and compassionately, which makes me a good
listener too. After having read many personal essays, it seems that
so many of us, both men and women, are looking for the same things-
love, comfort, honesty, integrity, truth, passion, compassion, an
end to lonely times wherever and whenever, a travel companion, a
life partner and a passionate lover…, all while walking along the
beach at sunset or lingering over a good glass of wine by the
fireside. Not to put too fine a point on it, or to drift into
maudlin sarcasm, but what makes us all different from one and
other, I wonder? If we are honest about our ages, our political
tendencies and our state of health, any number of us could fall in
love with any number of others without too much trouble. But that’s
not how it works, is it?
It’s much harder and more complicated than it seems at first blush,
pun intended. How difficult is it to find a similar mind-heart, not
necessarily a soul mate, to share life’s journey, the second or
more time around? Many opinions and many different answers to that
question, I’m sure. But I digress.
My mind tends to be tangential, rather a free associating type, so
I often have to remind myself to come back to center and focus on
the initial purpose, which is to describe myself, in an overview
sort of way, as well as to say what type of man I’m interested in
getting to know. I like interesting, intelligent, intense and
enthusiastic people who seek to know themselves better, to continue
to learn about the people and world around them and who are
inwardly, in spirit, and outwardly, in action, gentle, kind, honest
I am a serious romantic and love all things about love from first
butterflies to warm hugs to passionate kisses. Also love music, all
kinds-it’s the international language of lovers and everything
else, and can take you away- to tears or smiles of intense memory
or a truly foreign land- it’s just magical. Museums, theater,
symphony, opera, local art galleries, wine tasting, any number of
cultural events are always on my to do list. Travel is another
serious love- anywhere discovering new roads, learning new
cultures, meeting new people, trying new food, it’s exciting and I
am a hooked travel addict. Important to add that I love to read;
again the gamut is significant, soup to nuts kind of stuff;
classics, science fiction, self-improvement, psychology,
spy/adventure, modern lit, etc.
Ok, so I am:
Petite, attractive, curious, adventurous, generous, loving,
supportive, intelligent and caring and very patient. I love to
learn, listen and laugh, often at myself, and I know what it means
to share, compromise and work things out without anger. I can be
flirty, fun, playful and I can also be serious, intense and
passionate. Guess you could add the Chinese fortune cookie “fun”
ending to that last statement. Laughter is essential to a healthy
mind and heart- life is too short not to see the cup half full,
even on a dark and dreary night…or day for that matter.
The man I’m interested in getting to know is: all of the above,
except perhaps not petite ☺, and optimistic, truthful, patient,
tolerant, a good cook or one who appreciates one; a man who is
witty, wise, fun, with a little mischief in his eye, who also loves
music, wine, song and dance; importantly, he is polite, a
gentleman, and a man of integrity who is affectionate, loves deeply
and has a positive and open mind.
What I’m doing with my life
On a good day- Trying to make the best of everything everyday-
looking for the next adventure, job, travel opportunity, love in my
life-maybe even a love of my life-, helping, listening,
On a bad day-watching the days fly by, watching another year end
too quickly, worrying about things I cannot change.
I'm the honest type, even when it's not pretty or easy.
Overall: many, many more good days than bad.
I’m really good at
Parenting my two children, listening to and loving my family and
friends, maintaining and supporting friendships, showing
compassion, giving and receiving love. That's on the
non-professional side of the coin.
The other side, we can discuss later on, as needed, if interested.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my eyes, but who knows....that's not a question I usually
ask people when I first meet them. People think I'm easy-going and
friendly, a good listener, but I guess the question could be
interpreted as physical or social, so it's a good thing to ask some
friends about, get some feedback and then I'll know more.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Most recently read: The Ken Follett series: Pillars of the Earth,
etc., the Steig Larson Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, Khaled
Hosseini books, Cormac McCarthy and Ian McEwan books, psychology,
self-help and awareness books, metaphysics and the NY times best
seller list and much more.
Movies: I see a lot of movies and enjoy film. Recently very much
enjoyed,” Melancholia”, Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene”, “Ides of
March”, “Midnight in Paris”, "Margin Call", "The Social Network",
"The King's Speech", “Inside Job“. Also love the classics, the
Stanford Theatre, and indie films.
Music: Almost anything and everything, but especially classic rock,
easy rock, Sirius Radio, Pandora and have recently tried Spotify. I
like love songs, classical music, Broadway musicals and lots in
between from reggae to rap. Music is usually on in my life- at home
on my computer or in the car.
Food: no worries, I’m not a big eater, but I like almost
everything. Partial to sushi, Italian and Thai and good wine.
I watch very little TV, but do enjoy some HBO, and other series,
especially historical ones like The Tutors . I’m currently watching
Boardwalk Empire and always enjoy PBS specials, the History and
Discovery Chanel, when I do watch.
The six things I could never do without
Only 6 is tough but my children and family, love in my life,
friends, a curious mind, good literature, and keeping an open heart
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what I want to do next with my life. I'm currently sort of living
the good life and not working but this period will not last long
since I'm a doer and just haven't decided on a direction yet since
stepping back from raising the kids and stepping forward into a new
time for me. Still working all that out.
On a typical Friday night I am
out with friends, enjoying good wine, food and conversation or
taking in a movie, play or live music performance.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm not willing to admit anything truly private in public at this
time, so can't contribute to this question.
