I am multi-faceted, intelligent, and fun-loving.

My Self-Summary

O HAI, my name is Nate and I'm pretty creative, but not so much when it comes to writing an essay about myself for a website. I'd much rather be writing the website -- I'm a software engineer living in Oakland and working in San Francisco. When I'm not nerding out on the web, I'm surfing, playing soccer, rugby or softball, or some other fun activity.

Is that enough of a bio? Cuz I'm boring myself here.

OK, fine, a couple more things. I love music, but I don't have the patience to be a true music geek/snob. Current favorite bands: Hot Chip, Band of Horses, Beta Band, Bonde Do Role and a whole bunch of other random things.

Movie-wise, I currently have a huuuge man crush on Robert Downey Jr. He's so hot right now.

What I’m doing with my life

I've done a lot of different things in order to pay my rent and buy my grocieries. Currently, I've been pretty, um, career-oriented. I'm lead engineer at an Internet startup. We're pre-release, so I won't mention the name. Work-wise it's fun for the time being.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Catch-22
seafood paella
Fight Club
Thai green curry
Infinite Jest
Zachary's pizza and red wine
Cool Hand Luke
backyard BBQ
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
greasy breakfasts at roadside diners
The Big Lebowski
cheap hot dogs and expensive beers at A's games
Snow Crash
really fresh sushi
Step Into Liquid
super burrito al pastor

The six things I could never do without

There isn't anything I couldn't do without, but here's a list of stuff I'd rather not be apart from: surfboards, bikes, computers, balls (soccer, rugby, etc., what were you thinking?), musical instruments, spicy food and sunny California.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The brain. The nature of intelligence. Building intelligent machines and the future of computers. That said, a lot of the Ray Kurzweil-esque, computers-will-rule-us-all hyperbole annoys me. There's so much exciting research going on right now and I'm stoked to be around to witness it.
