My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a lover of literature, laughter, and life; an ex-East coaster, San Francisco convert for life, and a midwesterner at heart with international urges; a Korean-American English teacher with an unhealthy love for grammar and language; and a laidback guy who gets occasionally competitive.

I like my beer dark and coffee darker. I like to plan but like being spontaneous better. I'll try anything once, and nonstop if I love it. I'm addicted to new experiences.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Hmm, this one makes you think, doesn't it? I love what I'm doing with my life: I spend most of my time with books and kids. It's a challenging, rewarding, often hilarious, and always thought-provoking life. The kids keep me young.

Spending a week in the desert/mountains is good for my soul, so I do it at least once a year. I dabble in various activities depending on the mood: boxing, balling, breakdancing, acting, martial arts, yoga, meditation, etc. It just feels good being active, you know?
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- dealing with drama (of other people, not mine). I'm an advisor to 7th graders, so yeah, there's drama. Remember that age? Yep.

- Friends have told me I give good relationship advice. Want some advice? Ha. (The irony isn't lost on me.)

- looking at the bright side: I'm an optimist. Anne Frank's whole take that there's inherent good in everyone? What Scout says about there being just one kinda folks? I tend to believe it.

- word games like Scrabble and Boggle.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
-that I'm friendly and approachable. My colleagues appointed me the social chair.

-I have a hearty, reverberating laughter.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
I like this grouping; art is sustenance, methinks.

Some faves:
Books: The Brothers Karamazov, Cloud Atlas, Lord of the Flies, Never Let Me Go, The Road, Harry Potter
I love books that gives me chills, and I don't mean like in the horror genre. I love the likes of Dostoevsky, Chekhov, and Kafka.

Movies: Godfather I & II, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, The Shawshank Redemption, Grave of the Fireflies, Let the Right One In (and anything w/vampires, really, except for Twilight, of course)

Shows: South Park, 30 Rock, Seinfeld, True Blood, Battlestar Galactica, It's Always Sunny in Philly, Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, etc.

Music: '90s music! Seriously, there's nothing like songs that take you back in time...
Otherwise, kinda all over the place depending on the mood: hip hop for dancing, classic rock for chilling, classical for working, etc.

Food: Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Ethiopian, Popeyes (What can I say? Love that spicy chicken!), medium-rare steak, kettle chips, hot soup on a cold day, street food anywhere in the world, hole-in-the-walls off the beaten path, pointing randomly at a menu that I can't read. Yum.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
books - FYI iBooks don't count.
basketball - gets me fired up
passport - I'd be trapped without it.
GPS - unabashedly dependent on it
coffee stout - because I like both coffee and beer
randomness - I like being surprised.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
- what I spend a lot of time thinking about
- how to write a profile
- where to spend my next summer
- where the universe is going
- where my time went
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
- out with friends
- at a show/concert
- snuggling in bed/sofa with a book/movie
- not grading papers/tests
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm naked underneath my clothes.

Joking aside?

I have enjoyed Taylor Swift on occasion. There, I said it. :o
