I am geeky, musical, and historical.

My Self-Summary

hello, I'm a musicky person - I'm actually surgically attached to my headphones - I used to play lots of instruments - piano, flute, saxophone (alto, tenor and bass), steel drums and clarinet but since an unfortunate accident involving my lung and a hole in it, I'm now resigned to the occasional song sung to myself and my brand spanking new ukulele which is fun and a bit different

I like studying history, and yes, I'm a geek but fortunately for me, I find geekiness attractive, so there! I'm doing a Masters in Urban History, which is everso cool...yeah.

I like watching films, drinking wine and eating pizza with people - I'm not really that fussy about which films, what type of wine, and which pizza, but that would be an ideal evening :)

umm...yeh, so say hi if you too are a geek who likes films, wine and pizza :), (I'll let you pass with 2 out of 3 if you want)

What I’m doing with my life

I'm at uni at the moment, but I have no idea what I'm going to do after studying, so hopefully they'll let me stay for a good few years yet! For now I'm quite content panicking about deadlines and forgetting to eat :)

I have a ukulele; I'm learning how to sing and play at the same time (which was previously impossible on things like saxophone and flute), stringed instruments am fun. Once I have a room big enough I'm getting my piano back.

If you were to ask about *right now* I'm sitting all cozy and warm after discovering how my heater works in my new room :)

When I'm not panicking about essays/exams/dissertations, a lot of time is devoted to music, dvds, books and comic books :)

I’m really good at

essays ... apparently, who'd'a thunk it?

I tell you what I'm really bad at - saying what I'm really good at doing - there we go, I'm good at being modest and self-deprecating, sometimes so much it hurts, no really

update: I got told off for not being detailed enough on here, so here's some more:

I'm good at evaluating films on the way out of the cinema, I'm reasonably good at singing, um....oooh, I'm very good at people watching, especially if the people in question happen to be youthful and pretty
.....and generally being a student, I have plans to bring back 'academic-chic' as a fashion statement - everyone loves elbow patches, right?

The first things people usually notice about me

the smell

Just kidding...um...glasses? hair? dress sense?
Rosie, who is a reliable source says 'hmm well i'm an eye noticer so probably that, but also your face is a nice shape - cheekboney'

oh and 'kissable lips' from another reliable source...i'm pretty happy with that :P

hooray for compliments :)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books at the moment: good books, thick books, library books, free books, books that have been made into films I've enjoyed - all the normals like LOTR, Harry Potter, Terry Pratchett books - classics like Ian McEwan novels (particularly 'Amsterdam' and 'On Chesil Beach'), Dune, Birdsong, The Historian, - books that I'm probably too old for like Roald Dahl's novels, the Windsinger trilogy, Jonathon Stroud books, and 'Lucas' by Kevin Brooks - real classics like A Picture of Dorian Gray, High Fidelity, and more recently Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller and Let the Right One In by the swedish guy. Favourite book in the world ever would be The Diving-Bell and the Butterfly about and by Jean-Dominique Bauby, what a guy.

My Dvd collection is almost so tall it needs buttresses ... top of the lot would be Edward Scissorhands, American Psycho, Serenity (and Firefly series), Jarhead, History Boys, 28 Days Later Shakespeare in Love, and A Very Long Engagement - did i mention I had eclectic tastes?

Music? On discovering that Spotify will tell you similar artists to your favourites my tastes have diversified immeasurably, but at the moment I usually start with Jeff Buckley, Laura Marling, Noah and the Whale, Patty Griffin, Kate Rusby, Regina Spektor, Ben Folds kind of vibe and see where they take me. Otherwise, if it has a piano in it, I'm probably going to like it (yes you Muse, Queen, the Beatles). Special shout-outs would be going to Julia Nunes, she rocks the ukulele like no other

top of the food list has to be my mothers, its quite a large proportion of the reason I come home between terms at uni :P failing that it depends what mood I'm in - occasionally the best kind of food is the food you ring up for and it comes to your door, occasionally cooking is fun, I like cooking for visitors/dates/people in general :)

The six things I could never do without

ipod - I don't know what the world sounds like anymore

bookshelf (with books, silly) - escapism ftw

'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' - for the music, the actors, the acting, the theme, the costumes, the set, the props, the storyline, everything <3

msn - link to the world, it breaks up those days that are just full of essay

freshly ground coffee - ok its a bit of a luxury, and I probably could do without it, but the world would be a much worse place without it

chocolate - nuff said

I spend a lot of time thinking about

- music - listening, playing, writing, arranging, performing, slagging off (yes, you John Barrowman)

- history, I know, its sad, but I'm good at it, and I enjoy it, so shush. Hooray for history gays ;)

- everything far too much - its a curse - eg. how I appear to others, I know I shouldn't worry, or care in some cases, but meh.

- whether I am actually Harry Potter/Captain Jack Sparrow/Frodo/Edward Scissorhands but I just don't realise. (I may as well admit now that I have a sonic screwdriver, and have attempted more than once to apparate)

- whether my hair looks silly today...all the important things

On a typical Friday night I am

at the pub, mocking and being mocked by my friends, its fun :)

or in the cinema, either complaining about how its not as good as the book and loving every second of it, or glaring at people who were considering making the tiniest bit of noise because I've convinced myself that this new film is akin to the coming of the messiah and anyone who talks should burn.

Alternatively, catching up on all the tv I've missed through iplayer/4OD and msning everyone

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Colin Morgan's irish accent makes me all squishy inside

You should message me if

You've read through all this and gone 'omgmetoo!!!' at least 8 times.
