My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I just finished my PhD in Chicago and now I'm starting a new job in Boston. I grew up west of the city but I haven't been in the area for over 10 years now so I'm trying to relearn it. I like to explore by finding a nice coffee shop in some new area where I can read a paper, or do analysis, but mostly people watch. So, suggestions for that are welcome. Also! I'm currently looking for a new place to live around cambridge if anyone has suggestions about that. I'm currently bouncing around places.

I would consider myself a "folky", which Boston is great for. Also, I'm excited to be near the ocean again.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a scientist! I used to shoot lasers at brains which I thought sounded pretty cool. Now I'm a "post doctorate fellow" in a lab working towards brain machine interfaces. It's still pretty awesome, and I suppose it's more medically relevant etc.

It's a good job, that gives me time to think about how a bunch of little cells lead to a thought, or an action, or general awareness. ... Brains are fascinating.

In my free time I do a lot of folk like activities ... involving dancing and music. I teach dancing to high school students every weekend. I love their energy, it's often a highlight of the week. Occasionally I get hired for workshops at various dance camps. My parents are both artists and I like to try to keep an aesthetic outlet. Often I'm just taking photos when I get a chance, or I'll try to choreograph some dances.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making the world into a playground.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I would really like to know, maybe I should try and induce amnesia and look in a mirror? The only problem is, if I don't remember anything I'm not sure I'll know why I'm sitting there looking at myself. I'd have to be like that guy in Memento and start tattooing things on me so I know what's going on. So, I guess the thing I would probably notice first are all these crazy tattoos I have on me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
:-: Books
All time favorites or recently read: The Master and Margarita, Guns Germs and Steel, Ishmael, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, The Straight Man, The Time Traveler's Wife

Also, I love sci fi/fantasy: Ender's Game, Isaac Asimov, The Dark Is Rising series, the His Dark Materials series, The Song of Ice and Fire.

:-: Movies
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Royal Tenenbaums, Donnie Darko, Garden State. I love the Coen brothers. Anything that sets a good mood. The only rule is that if it's going to be drawn out and depressing the cinematography and acting better be really really good.

:-: Music
This is a hard one. Things like traditional Irish, to Bulgarian, to Breton. Most of my friends from home in Boston are all into traditional folk music. When we have parties people will often burst out singing traditional songs together. I'm starting to branch out into the rest of the world though ... If you have any good bands to suggest let me know! Spotify is great. So far I've had fun exploring things like electro swing, French popy/jazzy like Zaz or Carla Bruni. I've liked older jazz as well.

:-: Food
I love brunch, and in a similar vein breakfast for dinner can be great. I’m almost always up for sushi. My favorite thing to cook is risotto. Risotto is great, there are so many flavors you can infuse.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
family
friends that are like family
dancing
rainy days
seasons (I'm stuck on a weather theme)
an outlet to learn and grow (there are many so I'm not sticking to one)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Random articles I stumble upon while browsing Wikipedia. They are so easy to get lost in.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Pondering the sociocultural implications of Rebecca Black.

It's varied, but often more on the low key spectrum. I might be at a show, but I'm probably at a small party with some close friends or maybe getting a casual drink at a bar, or just chilling out watching a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I dance with swords
