My Self-Summary
It's been a while since I wrote one of these. I've been putting it
off because I'm afraid if I work at it too hard it'll sound like I
like talking about myself. Really I just like talking. But, it's
much better when you can have a conversation with somebody,
two-way. That conversation is more likely to be easy and
interesting if you're not offended by my basic political values: I
believe people are more important than money, wise government is
better than none, and that cooperation and competition are equally
important.
What I’m doing with my life
Making a living and working on getting my act together. Right now
that means meditating once in a while and practicing some
mindfulness to try and get back some of my attention span that the
internet has stolen away :) Also, making life reasonably good for
two sometimes-grateful cats.
I’m really good at
Communicating (once you get me started), getting along with people
and being generally amiable and diplomatic. I'm fairly witty,
sometimes even clever, but talking about such things is neither
witty nor clever.
The first things people usually notice about me
My face, I guess, and general build. I've had people tell me I look
mean or butch but I'm a nerdy teddy bear.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I haven't been reading much lately since I work in a library (ha)
but I like nonfiction, popular science, math, some history and
philosophy. I'm awful at reeling off a list of favorite movies but
tonight I just watched "The Jerk" (1979, Steve Martin) and was
pleased that it held up all these years just like I hoped. Ok,
also, Pleasantville, Big Eden, and anything with Lily Tomlin. Food,
I'l eat almost anything. I like exotic, but also familiar comfort
foods.
