I am artsy, generous, and unusual.

My Self-Summary

I grew up in a tiny village in MT called Boyd. Since I was pretty sheltered for the first 18 years of my life I'm trying to make up for that by doing new things all the time. I don't know how to swim or ski. One of my goals this year is to learn to camp like a true Montanan. So many things to learn, so little time!

I grew up between brothers and once even lived in a fraternity with 8 or so guys. I've been accused by friends of thinking like a guy and I don't think that's a bad thing. When I'm at a guy's house I put the toilet seat back up.

I'm interested in pagan religions, specifically the way they are represented in the Avalon books (Marion Zimmer Bradley), but I don't practice any. I'm back in school at the U of M to continue work on an English degree with a linguistic emphasis. I've always wanted to learn how to speak several languages and play various musical instruments. Now who wants to teach me the drums??!

I love animals usually more than I like most people. I have two cats who are mutants with super powers. They are Super Lazy and Super Whiny. (They're mutants because they have extra toes.)

In general I'm laidback, inquisitive, and interested in nearly everything. I found that I'm really the only one who can make myself bored, and that's when I'm not using my time constructively.

And apparently I'm a "unicorn" because I'm a single bisexual female who doesn't have children. Wheee!

If you'd like to know more just ask!

What I’m doing with my life

I'm working as a full-time custodian on the University of MT campus. I work nights so it's hard to find new people to meet or even hang out with my current friends who have day jobs. It's also difficult to find a day job instead because I'm now making the most I've ever made and have medical benefits as well as half-time tuition paid for through my awesome job of cleaning toilets.

When I'm not working I try to get outside and explore new places. There are gazillions of things I still haven't done so I'm trying to check things off on the life list all the time. When I'm inside I read a lot, and my cats like to interrupt, so then I harass my cats. I love going to the Book Exchange and picking up inexpensive books but I still haven't read all the ones I have. I'd love to learn how to cook more things so that I can have better work lunches and stop giving all my money to Subway. (Not that there's anything wrong with Subway, but I just feel lazy for going there all the time.)

I’m really good at

I bake a mean eggless banana bread. Well, it's nice, actually. I have mad chopsticks skills. I'm artistic but don't crank out art as much as I used to. I also used to be good at singing but haven't done that in years. I've got a goofy sense of humor and am not above embarrassing myself to make someone laugh. Since I'm a janitor I'm damn good at cleaning. I'm good at giving temple massages (as in the temples of your head). I'm good at being the giver in a relationship -- I like to give flowers, massages, etc. Ideally I'd like to find someone who likes to take that as well as give back.

The first things people usually notice about me

I have big eyes like an owl. I'm probably wearing a shirt of the crude humor variety (i.e. the ones you find at T-Shirt Hell). And I probably also have a bruise somewhere from running into something. People would likely notice that I'm quiet at first until I get to know someone, and sometimes my shyness is mistaken for aloofness or bitchiness. If you're in the business building on campus when I'm cleaning you'll notice that I whistle a lot while scrubbing toilets. When no one's looking I dance with my vacuum and lip-synch to Journey.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Fave authors: George RR Martin, Tad Williams, Marion Zimmer Bradley. I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi novels. I've got quite a few novels about pagan religion (some are just fiction like The Mists of Avalon). I have two Star Wars novels autographed by Bozeman author Kathy Tyers! I really enjoy Fahrenheit 451 as well.

Fave poets: Emerson, Poe

Fave music: Journey, U2, Van Halen, Queen, Pink Floyd, Interpol, Dredg, Disturbed, System of a Down, Mudvayne, Poe (not to be confused with the poet), most 80s music, and I still love the Dave Matthews Band and Counting Crows

Fave movies: comedy or horror, and it's great when those two are mixed together -- some of my faves are Animal House, Super Troopers, Ravenous, Addams Family, The Prestige, Shaun of the Dead, Butterfly Effect, Four Rooms, M*A*S*H seasons, X-Files seasons

Fave foods: sushi, any kind of tea, peaches, Asian food, Indian food, Thai food -- I'm most adventurous with food and will try anything as long as it isn't still alive, isn't an insect or spider, and isn't an animal waste product

The six things I could never do without

I could never be without animals, whether I own one myself or have to go seek out the neighbor's cat.
I couldn't live without music. I need to listen to it everyday and wish I could make some kind of career involving it.
I have to have sunlight. I'm like a plant, although I don't photosynthesize. As far as I know, anyway.
I love books because they teach and take you on adventures.
My tastebuds would be bored without spiciness in food, although I suppose I could live without that if I had to.
Friends are crucial. Since I grew up between brothers it's important for me to stay in touch with at least a few people on a regular basis.
And can you imagine a world without humor?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I like to ponder how time feels different in various situations. For example, I just watched my high school Spanish teacher's daughter participate in the state spelling bee and I realized it had been 12 years since my last state bee. Sometimes it seems like longer and at other times it feels like it was only a few years ago. When you're waiting for work to end for the day, time seems to drag on, but when you're doing other things it flies by too quickly.

I spend a lot of time with words. I'm a former spelling bee champ who was once runner-up to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. I'm kind of a spelling and grammar nazi but I don't bother people about their lack of skills nearly as much as I did when I was younger. I want to eventually become an editor or interpreter.

I'm beguiled by people's reasons for having children, which in turn makes me wonder why I wasn't born with a maternal instinct toward baby humans. I'm only maternal with pets and sick boyfriends. I prefer little kids to keep a 10-foot radius unless they're really cool (i.e. my friends' kids).

And of course I like to think of ways to keep learning, do things in different ways, and find ways to improve myself.

On a typical Friday night I am

I get out of work at midnight:thirty, so I have just enough time to see if any of my friends are out and about downtown. Or I see if people want to just hang out and watch movies. Otherwise I get all nutty and clean my apartment.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I make odd sound effects without realizing it. I'll just be talking away and make a noise and then a few seconds later think to myself, did I just make the fart noise? Again??

You should message me if

this made you laugh -- if so we could probably have some good conversations
you get a kick out of teaching someone new things
you can communicate your feelings and intentions instead of leaving me hanging
you think you can kick my ass at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit
you just want to hang with a goofy janitor
