This doesn't mean that I don't still enjoy going to the gym 5 times a week and biking and hiking and walking all over the islands or the NFL cities. A lot. Or that I don't love a fabulous meal at a favorite haunt, but I don't see grilling as a consolation. It's a joy to know that life is good simply because it is.
My boys. They're a big part of my life. They're young, they're fabulous, and they've taught me more about life than all of the graduate degrees I've racked up, the business experiences I've notched, and the relationships I've experienced. One day, they'll learn that they've taught me more than I've taught them, but by then, I'll be drooling on myself and they won't be able to extract a fee as taking money in a situation like that would be abuse of the elderly. If you're a part of my life, they are as well.
To me, I've learned it's about being as engaged as possible at a genuine level of who I am. With who you truly are. Everything above that is the icing on the cake.
Favorite bands, movie trivia, places visited ... all of that is fun to learn about each other. We'll love some of the same, be dumbfounded by some of what the other likes. But, to me, being a fan of a particular band or disliking a particular movie isn't the baseline. Smiling innately when thinking about the other person ... such simplicity makes for real happiness. At least what I have to offer and with whom I'm looking to connect.
Make it a great day!!
