My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
my friends say that i'm very much like flint from cloudy with a chance of meatballs, to help set the stage for your mental picture...

happy, silly, dorky, kind of a nerd, canadian, and completely at the mercy of inspiration and creativity. i'm a vegan (but not preachy), i love little adventures, rain, snow forts, couch cushion forts, dancing, cuddling, being /simply/ happy, finding creative ways to pour myself into something, and exploring.

things that make me smile: astronomy, cuddling, tall green grass, being a dork, painting, thinking really deep thoughts, photography, the rain, random acts of kindness, science, socks with holes, thunderstorms, tree climbing, tree hugging, and veggie people.

my bathtub was once filled with playpen balls. for almost a whole year. you should probably know that about me. (don't worry, there was a separate shower!).
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
i'm a mad scientist/postdoctoral researcher at UA, working on trying to teach computers to learn language like babies do. before that, i was across the campus spending my days figuring out how to build better spectrometers (that's something that figures out what chemicals a thing is made out of), and also building 3d printers. what's a 3d printer, you say? it's just as cool as it sounds. say you're low on spoons, you can walk over to the printer and print one out. or, design anything you can imagine, and watch the machine make it in a few short hours. it's seriously too cool.

i once lived in a "camp ground" in the lobby of the university library, unable to leave for a whole week, to raise money to build a school library for kids in nepal. i spend a lot of my spare time trying to help make science education more accessible to people, and especially kids, in the hopes that those people will go out and make the world a happier, better place to live. i even flew half way around the world to gave a TED talk about it in front of 2000 people in the world's fifth best opera house. one of the craziest experiences of my life!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
finding beauty in the world
baking chocolate chip cookies
(trying to be) full of humility and empathy
building all sorts of crazy contraptions
always being there for my friends
making jokes at the most inappropriate times (and, getting away with it)

i'd also like to think i'm a decent kisser... :P
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
i'm told that some people notice my very blue eyes, or that i have a kind and light heart. then again, at the last grad student halloween party everyone noticed my freakin' amazing cardboard-robot-suit-making abilities, and not so much the blue eyes. haha. i don't mind walking around with painty fingers... i'm happy to run down the hall and have competitions to see who can slide the farthest in their socks at school... i kind of rock out a bit at my desk while i work... i should probably stop now?

people also definitely notice me saying the word "eh", and sometimes "aboot". i'm canadian, and from toronto, and still very new to this whole no snow thing.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
books: surely you're joking mr. feynman (a book of stories about a famous physicist who didn't take himself too seriously), and lord of the rings. you're definitely more well read than i am. honestly, i like big books filled with astronomy pictures. the bigger, the better.

movies: lord of the rings, the matrix's (matricies?), march of the penguins, planet earth, eternal sunshine on a spotless mind, anything m night shyamalan (especially the village). i like indie movies, but i'll watch (and enjoy) almost anything! i love a good story.

shows: nerdy, but battlestar galactica, star trek, house, futurama, almost anything on discovery, big bang theory, stewart / colbert, and, of course, cartoons. i especially like ones that are funny, like spongebob!

music: like anyone, lots of things make me happy to listen to. i mostly listen to trance and ambient/chillout/electronica music (people like chicane, bt, paul van dyk, moby, daft punk, etc.) when i'm working/being creative, and love to dance. when its me time, it's mostly solo piano, explosions in the sky, cinematic orchestra, sigur ros, and postrock folks like that. sharing music makes me happy. i secretly dream of learning to play the cello, even though i have no idea how to even read music.

food: vegan! :) i'm kinda a sweets person, so i love sugar. bubbletea is great, and i find i mostly eat asian/vietnamese/thai. except of course for chocolate chip cookies.

i have two rescue kittens who are part of a package deal with me, and they are less discriminating with what they eat and read. the one is pretty much oblivious to music unless it's hakuna matata from the lion king, which he loves. i'm not even joking...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
having a bunch of really good friends, laughing until you start to cry, meeting the world with curiosity and playfulness, finding challenging things to figure out, and having somewhere (and someone) comfy to cuddle up with. that's where you come in...

also, the alexi murdoch station on pandora is pretty wonderful...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
what kind of a sweet fort i can make with empty cardboard boxes, or alternatively couch cushions
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
before grad school? hanging out with friends, or out dancing it up at the bar/club. during grad school? we figured out how to hide a /lot/ of beer and vodka in the ventilation shafts and emergency stairwell of the school, and at 4pm we'd gather it up and have a party!

these days? being a single person in my 30s, i hang out with other single people in their 30s, and then we all go home and tell our cats how great it was.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
i'm secretly batman...

you're good for a laugh.

you are happy, have a light heart, and don't take yourself too seriously, or sweat the small stuff.

you are willing to accept someone who may have a small peanut butter cup addition.

you're the kind of girl that you could take to toys 'r us and have the time of your life with. i'm talking sticky nerf darts on the forehead here.

smile. pass it on. :)
