I am fun, smart, and quirky.

My Self-Summary

Even though I decided to pursue medicine I am interested in lots of other things, like literature, poetry, politics, human rights, dumb tv, ice cream, aspiring to be more outdoorsy, dancing around. I did my undergrad in anthropology, which was great because I got to read Toni Morrison and do artsy projects and still go to med school afterwards. Currently I am trying to get better at ultimate frisbee so I can play with my co-workers without making a fool of myself.

What I’m doing with my life

Right now I am doing my residency in Family Practice and Psychiatry at UC Davis. I am interesting in working with underserved populations, both domestically and abroad.

I’m really good at

dancing, writing, listening to NPR & BBC, wooing unfriendly cats, embarrassed to admit it but shopping, making people feel better when they're bummed, taking multiple choice tests, pretending to understand social theory

The first things people usually notice about me

that I'm smiling and my hair is curly. Sometimes they're trying to figure out if I am Indian or Latina.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Zadie Smith "On Beauty," Arundhati Roy "God of Small Things," Louise Gluck "Meadowlands," Gloria Anzaldua "Borderlands," Muhammad Yunus "Banker to the Poor." I love books, make a recommendation!

Movies: All the Harry Potters, Lord of the Rings, X-men, The Birdcage, Bend It Like Beckham, Saving Face, Transamerica. I used to like more documentaries and soul-searching independent films, but after I started working with sick, dying, and crazily poor people I got sick of reality and settled for pure entertainment.

Music: Julieta Venegas, Zero 7, Cesaria Evora, Jill Scott, Amadou & Miriam, The Be Good Tanyas, Amy Winehouse, The Supremes, Beyonce, Shakira, Selena, Bebel Gilberto, Ace of Base, En Vogue, Salt N Pepa, Marvin Gaye, Madeline Peyroux, Gotan Project, R.D. Burman, The Dixie Chicks, Fiona Apple, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Missy Elliott

Food: EVERYTHING! Korean, Vietnamese, Afghani, Sri Lankan, Eritrean, the smaller and more obscure the country the better. Just kidding. I basically eat anything. I would keep listing foods I like except that I'm getting unbearably hungry.

The six things I could never do without

1) A range of good restaurants (i think that already exceeds 6)
2) A comfy bed
3) A bookcase of good reads
4) A good source of news (NPR, BBC, NY Times)
5) My kitty cat (no I'm not referring to my unmentionables)
6) My unmentionables

I spend a lot of time thinking about

what I'm going to have for dinner, whether I'll have time to do all the things I want to do with my career and still have time for fun and family, if my parents will be ok with it if I end up with a woman, if there will ever cease to be a distinction between "first" and "third" world countries and how we get there, and which accessories best match my outfit.

On a typical Friday night I am

watching a movie, going dancing, wining and dining, or in the hospital :(

You should message me if

We share interests, you're socially conscious and intellectually driven, and you think we could have good conversations. Or if you're willing to help me become better at tennis.
