I am mildly pretentious, sincere, and confident.

My Self-Summary

Just another late 20s nerdy post-hipster living in San Francisco. I smoke like a chimney, drink like a fish, yet still manage to work 40-50 hours a week at a web startup in downtown.

Most nights I'm drinking and/or dancing in the Mission, hacking on my own web side projects, reading overly wordy histories of the Ottoman Empire by stodgy British dudes named Lord Kinross, or writing overly wordy short stories while drinking and smoking in my room in the Dogpatch.

Word.

What I’m doing with my life

Everything wrong and everything right.

I’m really good at

Arguing about politics, society, technology, music, and food.

Cooking for large groups of people (though I'm incapable of cooking for myself). Specialties include Japanese, Persian, Mexican, Turkish, and Thai

I make a mean mint julep.

I will kick your ass in backgammon.

The first things people usually notice about me

"Where the hell is that guy from?!"

I am from here, but my father's family is 100% Sephardic Jewish from the Island of Rhodes (so, Spanish, Turkish, Greek, Jew) and my mothers family is 100% Japanese. I can fit in and look like a local almost anywhere: Turkey, Europe, Mexico... though I did stick out like a sore thumb in Japan. Something about a 6'1" bearded dude doesn't quite fit in there.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

1: Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me, Gravity's Rainbow, Giles Goat-Boy, Stand on Zanzibar, Neuromancer, Snow Crash, Banvard's Folly, House of Leaves, A Void, Life: A User's Manual, Godel, Escher, Bach, Flatland, Flatterland, Fermat's Engima, Preacher, Underworld... OK, I'll stop listing my bookshelf now.

2: Sukiyaki Western Django, Labyrinth, Donald in Mathmagic Land, Wet Hot American Summer... Screw this... Depending on my mood I like character driven independent films, dialogue driven comedies, or mindless action movies with lots of explosions and stupid, nonsensical plot devices that only work if you shut your brain down at the door. Soft spot for 80s fantasy and sci-fi, as well.

3: Good music, regardless of genre. I like everything from 60s folk (Phil Ochs, Mimi and Richard Farina, Dave Van Ronk) to 90s Alt-Rock, from cheesy synth-pop to black metal, from underground hip-hop to indie-pop, from Jason Webley to Andrew WK. I tend to not like overproduced radio-pop, but I've been known to sing NSync and JT songs at karaoke.

4: I like food. Period.

The six things I could never do without

A good book.
A good supply of music.
A good kitchen.
Good friends.
A good supply of writing material.
And, apparently, the word good.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Other people's problems.

On a typical Friday night I am

Getting epic. Or asleep. One of the two. Depends on the week and my plans for Saturday.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am consistently disappointed in humanity.

I am consistently impressed with individual people.

You should message me if

You don't mind a mildly drunken, chain smoking pseudo-hipster talking your ear off. Or letting you talk his ear off. Or feel like sitting with same in silence while working on crosswords puzzles. Or feel like talking massive amounts of smack to same while drinking coffee and playing backgammon.
