I am geeky, pedantic, and somewhat obsessive.

My Self-Summary

I thought it would be a good idea to update this (which is how probably about 1/3 of profiles start) but in my case there wasn't a lot to change. I checked.

The three adjectives thing above is still quite right - can't improve on it. Hopefully they don't make me look callous - I'm quite a caring soul too. The important rule to remember with me is that if I ever seem a bit blunt, I most likely don't mean to be.

I'm semi-nocturnal by nature. For some reason I work better on a 30 hour day body clock - I just wish someone would tell the planet, shops, other people etc.

I'm the kind of person who loves staying up into the wee small hours in a small bar or pub chatting, setting the world to rights (or more likely taking the piss out of it). Although I'm not at all keen on early mornings, I absolutely love being up as the sun rises, outside if possible (and not too cold). Don't see sunrises often enough but that makes it special when I do!

A few odd facts about me:

• I wish I could be barefoot for more of the year

• I always pay more attention to dogs when out walking than their owners

• I have a habit of picking up small stones I like the look of on the beach

• I have a talent for remembering song lyrics (especially if I've read them before)

What I’m doing with my life

Currently, I'm making a living being a professional geek, which I've done forever and love - well not 'forever', that would be silly but for a long time but I really do enjoy it!

I think that the coming year will involve a bit of travelling. Not something I've really done much before so why not! Actually I'm thinking about doing a bit of a trek from China, via Mongolia, to Russia - and getting quite excited at the prospect :o) (If you have any advice - or want to come too - then get in touch!)

I’m really good at

Solving problems (often computer problems and occasionally people problems), listening, laughing, drinking alcohol, being logical and helping people sort their thoughts out.

The first things people usually notice about me

(As I notice them): Tend to be a bit intense in conversation, talk rubbish a lot (but very enthusiastic rubbish!), that I can be quite funny. I can be both quite arrogant and quite shy at the same time - bit of a paradox there.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

A) Well I'm still not making the time to read many books - in fact I've been trying to read a book called "Getting Things Done" for so long now that I've stopped admitting to people that I'm still trying to read it!

I loved The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear, You're an Animal, Viskovitz, I have great memories of reading PG Wodehouse, Terry Pratchett and Tolkein books growing up.

B) Love cinema and tend to watch weird and (pretty much always) wonderful things. Top films at the moment are: Andrei Rublev, Broken Flowers, Innocence, Lost In Translation, North by Northwest, The Third Man, Spinal Tap, The Royal Tenenbaums, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Life Aquatic, Late Night Shopping, Amelie, Little Miss Sunshine, Marx Brothers films (like Duck Soup) are just amazing. Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away were great - definitely need to see more films like those.

The most recent film I've seen was Taxidermia and I didn't really enjoy it that much.

I'm not completely buff-ish about films, I just love it when films bundle me up and take me on a journey.

C) Again quirky stuff like: Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, Regina Spektor, Scout Niblett, Architecture in Helsinki, Frank Zappa, Afro Celt Sound System. Dub and Reggae is also good. When the mood takes me, dirty techno all night in the middle of a forest is a must!

Look at my Last.fm profile for more...

Emmy the Great, Cate Le Bon, James Yorkston (ooh Surf Song!), Seasick Steve. All lovely music!

D) I like most foods and I quite enjoy cooking but I tend to treat recipes as guidlines at best. How about food I don't like? Liver and Sprouts are not good for me but then no one really likes them.

I like coffee (not at a euphemism for sex but you know, as a brown drink). Wouldn't it be great if there were more little, dark, open-all-night coffee shops where you could go and hang out in comfy sofas - well more of them in Cornwall would be a good thing anyway!

The six things I could never do without

My mind (because I live there quite often), Computer, Car, Trees (that's three trees - hopefully making up somewhat for my car being on the list)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My life and where it's going. Strange and insignificant ways in which the world would run better if things were done the way I think they should be. Adverts - I tend to over-analyse them and bore people silly with my conclusions. In fact (and I'm sorry to admit this) but I tend to over-analyse pretty much anything worth thinking about.

I'm quite fascinated by the stars pretty much any time I see them - living in the countryside I probably I see them more than most.

Emails - for some reason I really agonise over writing emails to people. I can sit for hours re-reading the bloody thing before I send it. This is something I do not enjoy thinking about - it's very frustrating!

On a typical Friday night I am

Thinking it might be nice to go out for a change - and sometimes are. Or quite often working away on something geeky (and in my opinion brilliant)!

I could also be driving around the countryside or walking through it, maybe on a beach.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I can put off doing things until it really gets silly. I'm a fully paid up member of the Cult of Procrastination.

I also sing along to the music in my car a lot!

It might take a bit of work to get me to properly open up but I think I'm probably worth it (but then I'm biased).

You should message me if

You think geeks are cool and you can finish this sentence because I couldn't think of any other criteria. In fact I can't think of a reason why you shouldn't message me!
