Born and raised in rural vermont; spent a huge amount of my early childhood running around the woods. Went to college and grad school in boston; didn't get out much. Came to SF am trying to find a balance between the two lifestyles.

I like running, rowing, snowboarding, and playing piano. I also like sitting in a coffee shop writing (code).

This site says I have bad manners based on my responses to questions. For some reason I find that mildly insulting.

I wear flip flops unless it's socially unacceptable not to (yay multiple negatives). This bugs the hell out of some of my fashion-minded-coworkers for some reason.

I have an bizarrely typical backstory for SF. Two years ago I was in grad school building robots - then I went on indefinite leave to work at a small software company.

I happiest solving interesting puzzles. The bay has a lot of those, so I'm hoping to stick around.

mispeling things. also scrabble. You wouldn't think someone could be good at both.

I shoot for breadth rather than depth - I'll try anything a few times, and am pretty good at lots of things rather than great at a few. Couple recent passions have been cooking, running, web design, and guitar. Of course I wrote this in winter 2012, so it could be different by now. (edit: spring 2013 - taking up golf - so far I'm horrible at it)

I've been skiing and playing piano since before my earliest memories.

If they can see me: I'm six feet tall and wear glasses.
If they can't: I have a voice that carries pretty far.

books: I haven't read any fiction since I moved out here :-/ Hemingway and Vonnegut have always been favorites. Burroughs is a guilty pleasure.

movies: howl's moving castle, shrek, aladdin, snatch, cube, everything pixar, shawshank redemption

shows: archer, 30 rock, daily show, don't trust the b**** in apt. 23

music: I've been on a taylor swift/sara barielles kick lately, but this is very much a moving target. I love EDM live. current Pandora seeds: taylor swift, knife party, frou frou, bittersweet, pheonix, watsky, pomplamoose, lynyrd skynyrd

food: I've yet to meet a type of food I didn't like. Spicy food is awesome.

Long, unreasonable, hypothetical situations. Puzzles and math problems. what other people think of me.

Early in the night drinking scotch and playing keyboards in the jam band we threw together at work. Later in the night there's an 80% chance I'm reading/watching trashy TV shows/passing out early after a long week, and a 20% chance I'm heading to the mission or the marina with coworkers.

I realize this is the opposite of private, but I was a finalist in the first Mr. Marina competition (google it). I didn't really have any business in the competition. It was an amazing experience. My friends still tease me for it.

you have something you're passionate about. I find that's the best indicator of if we'd get along.

I don't really want or have time for internet friends, you should be open to at least grabbing coffee or the equivalent.
