My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
- Raised in rural Georgia by two English teachers.
- Earliest memories: Getting a library card, hearing Twin Peaks theme song.
- Have remained literarily/sonically-obsessed ever since.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work for a music licensing company, where I spend a lot of time listening to songs and then categorizing them into playlists. This bolsters my Mix CD-making skills immensely. I also help to pick the music that goes in all the awful reality TV shows you secretly enjoy. Also if you live in France and saw a Nestle commercial there once I put the music in that, maybe.

In the non-daylight hours, I spend a lot of time practicing instruments, playing shows and binge-reading.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making bread. If you want to make bread we should totally hang out. I don't even mean that as a euphemism for something - platonically making bread rules. Also, bread is so great that you wouldn't even want to ruin your association with it by bringing romance/dating into the picture. If I couldn't get my challah on because of an ex I don't know what I would do with myself.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: David Foster Wallace, Cormac McCarthy, Blake Butler, Amy Hempel, Gary Lutz, Ben Marcus, Tao Lin, George Saunders, Franz Kafka (I wrote my senior thesis on him, total Kafka nerd).

Brazil and the Fifth Element are tied for "most favorite of all time." Absurdist sci-fi dystopias are kind of my thing. I also like David Lynch and a lot of horror, both old and new.

Music - Anything with cool/weird sound textures, thoughtful production and a general desire to do something different: Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky (tons of Trip-Hop!), AC Newman, Beck, Nine Inch Nails, They Might Be Giants, Pavement, Stephen Malkmus, Shlohmo, David Bowie, anything Jon Brion's produced (Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, etc).
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Food, hydration, shelter from the elements, my vital organs, running, a good metronome.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The future, both in the apocalyptic and non-apocalyptic sense.
Songs. I tend to practice and write music a lot in my head - especially on long walks and runs. I eagerly anticipate the invention of a brainwave-to-audio converter.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either in "Hermit Mode" (reading, practicing, recording demos in my bedroom) or "Hermit-in-Denial Mode" (out somewhere doing stuff). 50/50 chance of either depending on season/weather/how much of my soul is left at the week's end.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I once DJ'd at an orgy.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
you can deal with a high degree of Bowie-worship in a partner.
Bad kerning & tracking drives you insane.
You enjoy binging on longreads just as much as tv shows.
