My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Oh, my god! I’m old enough to retire. Funny, I don’t feel like it on the inside but it still scares me at times.

When I think of that I think of the Death Cab for Cutie lyrics:

You may tire of me as our December sun is setting
'Cause I'm not who I used to be
No longer easy on the eyes
These wrinkles masterfully disguise
The youthful boy below
who turned your way and saw
Something he was not looking for
Both a beginning and an end
But now he lives inside someone he does not recognize
When he catches his reflection on accident

Ben Gibbard is such a great song writer. More of his lyrics that have a lot of meaning to me:

I want to live where soul meets body
And let the sun wrap its arms around me
And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel, feel what its like to be new

Cause in my head there’s a greyhound station
Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations
So they may have a chance of finding a place
where they’re far more suited than here

And I cannot guess what we'll discover
When we turn the dirt with our palms cupped like shovels
But I know our filthy hands can wash one another’s
And not one speck will remain

And I do believe it’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere

Where soul meets body...

And I do believe it’s true
That there are roads left in both of our shoes
But if the silence takes you
Then I hope it takes me too
So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you’re the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere...

Boy meeting girl was once so effortless. Girls were everywhere and they wanted to meet boys and we seemed to be drawn to one another for all kinds of reasons. We were all so beautiful then.
There were so many places to meet but now we don't get out just to meet someone as much. We now seem to be consigned to the dreadful world of meeting online. I would much rather meet in person because it only takes a moment to tell whether there is any attraction, any chemistry, and if there isn't we just go our way.

About me: I am mentally stable, not a serial dater (although I have been on more first dates that I care to admit), nor am I specifically looking for a one time "intimate encounter" but I might be up for it if the mood is right. That’s right: I expect sex out of a romantic relationship, so if you have given up in that department we wouldn’t be a good match.

I am not one to hang on to a relationship if it has no potential or if it is going bad. Now, I offer you a quote from Anais Ninn:
Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don't know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.
I must confess, I am guilty of that crime and I fear becoming a repeat offender. Love seems a stranger to me at times. But as long as my heart beats I remain hopeful.

I remain good friends with almost all women I have dated since I have been single. I like bicycling and have both a pretty decent road bike and a mountain bike. I like putting my bike on my rack and driving to somewhere I’ve never been and discovering something new. I love to cook and I’m pretty darned good at it. I also have a great affinity for wine and like to go to tastings but not so much those cattle calls they have on fairgrounds in the summer, invariably on the hottest days. I prefer driving to the wineries and making a day of it.

Music? I appreciate all kinds of music and follow the development of new bands and new music with great enthusiasm. Love going to live performances of talented artists. I have over 4,000 songs on my iPod and can identify most of them on the first measure.

Also like travel both near and far and I’m looking for a traveling partner.
Three things I think are highly overrated: Starbucks coffee, Jason Mraz and goat cheese. Not that they without appealing qualities but, just the same, they are overrated

What am I looking for?
The spirit and wonder and sensuality of youth still burns strong inside of me and I can see those same youthful qualities in some women. I am looking for someone who is seeking those same qualities.
Here is what I admire in a woman: a sense of adventure, a sense of style, fitness, sensuality, intelligence, independence, honesty, and most of all emotional stability.
I am not afraid of living alone nor am I afraid of a committed relationship. I think we are all looking for The One. Some of us never find that person and others are very fortunate. It seems like the harder you look the more disappointed you become. But I refuse to be disheartened. (I think I have already mentioned that. I plan on enjoying the journey and hope to find new friends along the way. I hope to meet people I can connect with; it is just as important to me to gain a good friend as it is to find someone to love.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am working to pay the bills, just like almost everyone else. I am also pursuing things that I never had a lot of time for while raising a family. I am trying appreciate all the many little joys life has to offer and looking for someone to share some of those moments with.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Fixing things, crosswords, hugs untangling those fine jewelry chains.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my goofy smile

Favorite books

I will read almost anything. I love a good story. A contemporary author I really like is Laura Hillenbrand. Just recently finished reading two unusual stories. Ron McLarty's The Memory of Running and Brooke Stevens Tattoo Girl. The later should not be confused the Steig Larson’s trilogy, which was also a great tread but terribly edited. The Goldfinch was also great read, but again disappointingly edited.

I like all kinds of movies. I am a big fan of those little known independents and shadowy foreign films. I am a huge fan of film noire But my favorite actor of all time is the taciturn Gary Cooper, especially in The Fountain Head.

I am also a radio nut. I listen to This American Life, Radio 360, The Signal and The Moth Radio Hour, I can live without TV but not radio.

Music? I love everything about music. Its not unusual for me to be the oldest person at the concerts I attend.

Food? Can’t get enough of it. Love to eat and cook Cajun. Also on a lifelong quest to make the perfect blackberry reduction.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Still working on that. Seems to be a moving target. Or maybe I am incapable of narrowing it down to six.

OK, I will start the list with air.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What if everyone drove courteously? I think that you would agree that a great deal of our traffic problems are caused people who are just plain inconsiderate (and sometimes downright dangerous) behind the wheel. How many of you have tried to change lanes only to be cut off by some idiot who thinks they are driving in a NASCAR race and you stand behind them and the checkered flag? I used to take this one road to work where two lanes would merge into one before feeding into the interstate. Mind you the traffic wasn’t heavy but drivers refused to act cooperatively. Instead of cars merging alternately from both lanes - like zipper would work – no one wanted to let the other diver in front of them. Traffic was invariably backed up, wasting gas and causing people who left home deliberately early to arrive at their destinations late. This condition routinely resulted in material damage when two cars attempted to occupy the same place at the same time. This happens every day, all day, everywhere. Think of the time, the fuel, the wear and tear on cars, the personal injury and the general aggravation that could saved
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I might go out and I might not. I am not much of a bar person. I like weekend adventures so if It is a long drive on Saturday, I am hitting the sack early. Other than that I pretty much do what I want to do any day of the week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
