My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a PhD student at Stanford. I like learning and the other option for people in my predicament is law school, and I'm too pretty for law school.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I left my job in DC to start graduate school in Palo Alto. New York is my home, though.

I spend a lot of time trying to find markers that work, writing math on whiteboards, and then gesticulating at said math.

I'm getting into tennis. I'm a big runner and am attempting to be more of a Californian and so have done a backpacking trip and looking to do more.

I once wrote a terrible terrible novel for NaNoWriMo.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Ironing shirts.
Making curry.
Tolerating uncomfortable bus trips.
Marathon running.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

This section is probably more stream of consciousness/disorganized than need be:

Foucault's Pendulum, Dune, Lord of Light, Wind Up Bird Chronicle, Gravity's Rainbow, anything by Martin Amis, The Brothers Karamazov, Bonfire of the Vanities, Reasons and Persons.

Moby Dick is the best book ever written. At least in English.

Also a large blog consumer.

Although I really enjoy Korean or Indian food, nothing will ever replace my deep abiding love for smoked fish.

I've been playing violin since the age of 10. I have a New Years resolution to master a movement of a concerto.

Dvorak, Shostakovich, Bartok, Mozart, Mahler, Schubert, Chopin, the Clash, REM, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr., Joy Division, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Aphex Twin, Tame Impala, anything pitchfork tells me (recently, DIIV, Future Islands, Beach House).

If you want to go to a concert, classical or otherwise, I will definitely be interested. I really love live music and have major amounts of fun seeing a band that I've never heard of (and will likely only be kinda ok) somewhere in BK.

I have a soft spot for older comedies like Woody Allen films and Airplane. I have really mixed feelings on Wes Anderson and Game of Thrones (I feel like that should go under "Most private thing I'm willing to admit").

David Lynch, even his version of Dune. Twin Peaks is one of the best things ever put on television. I also like body Cronenberg stuff from the 80s. The Room.

Favorite places, outside the contiguous United States, in no particular order: Hong Kong, Madrid, Tokyo, Orccha (India), Leh (also India), Granada, Xinjiang, Montreal.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What is the optimal amount of alcohol for writing good code

Is there some amount of intuition in navigating New York that makes google maps imperfect?

The continuum hypothesis.

I sometimes think about shower thoughts, like an abstraction of shower thoughts, "what defines shower thoughts?" "Was that a shower thought?"
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Sometimes work, sometimes a music event, sometimes a drink with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I played chess competitively in middle and high school. I still find myself playing online when I have nothing better to do.

Friend once used the term "Manic Pixie Dream Economist" to describe me.

Not sure if it's a great description of me, but I think it's hilarious.
