I am artsy, cycley, and analytical.

My Self-Summary

I'm an artist from Vancouver. I get very excited about beautiful, thin black lines bending gracefully. I like to draw people's faces and imaginary rocks and plants. I enjoy humour and graphic novels and old illustrated advertisements.

I am respectful, honest, and love intellectual debate. I'm not easily offended. I'm attracted to activist types - people who are ethical and responsible but a little mischevious. On the other hand, I tend to limit my own political activities to opinions, conversations, and lifestyle decisions.

I have always enjoyed my own company and am happy being alone, but I love my friends and find a social environment - a conversation with many people - to be totally thrilling. I have only recently started the whole travel thing and it's wonderul.

What I’m doing with my life

Working at a conventional office job but planning to save money and then be an artist or illustrator. In an alternate reality, I could be a fountain architect, an urban planner, a lawyer, a librarian, or a cake decorator.

I’m really good at

drawing, trying things out, spelling, figuring out computer problems, makin' spaghetti sauce, remembering dreams, keeping my life in good order and not fucking up

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Little Nemo in Slumberland; Culinary Delights from the Red Lights: Recipes from the Bordellos and Backstreets of the Frontier West; The Softer Side of R. Crumb; the Watchmen; The Sword in the Stone; The Golden Compass; Catch 22; Krazy Kat; Don Quixote; Tintin; On the Road; The Name of the Rose.
(I like art books, and 20th-century American classics, but I wouldn't mind branching out into a new time and place.)

Office Space; Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
(Terrible list, but I don't watch many movies - I like to use my time and energy for visual and literature. It's not that I don't respect the medium, and I would love to watch your favourite intellectually-stimulating movie with you)

Cold War Kids; Beastie Boys; Pixies; Daniel Johnston; Metric; Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Dead Milkmen; Cab Calloway; Sloan; Sublime.
(I don't like to make a big deal about music. Of course I love it, and I usually listen to college radio stations, but I'm not constantly trying to find the next new thing, or even keeping close track of artist and band names. Music snobbery annoys me.)

palak paneer; falafels; babimbap; burritos; unagi rolls; lentil soup; orange flavoured chocolate; lattes; quinoa; fried rice... (Is it obvious that I have a particular favourite food from every culture, and that I order it every time I go to such a restaurant?)

The six things I could never do without

friends, bike, india ink, the library, changing season, water flowing in a gutter, transit system. Ha, that's seven things.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to value communication over cleverness.

How strangers decorate their living spaces.

How to improve myself and get everything I can out of life.

How people come to decide what is normal or natural. Evolutionary psychology and choice.

What it must have been like to live in the past, and what future people will think of us now.

How the environment is going to be totally fucked unless massive amounts of people change their material lifestyles, and how people are harmful and destructive, and how truth is misrepresented on the matter, and what forces of fear and complacency do to prevent drastic change.

On a typical Friday night I am

Walking around the city or sitting in a park with friends and beer, or hunkering down at home and making drawings, or glued to a book, or at an art opening. Sometimes I spend the evening making 5 different kinds of waffle batter for the next morning.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Looks are important to me - I guess like any human being I try to find a partner who's more attractive than I am. I love the thin, lean types more than the beefy, chunky, chubby or ridiculously muscular ones. That's shallow, but so are most people.

Also, while I'm not promiscuous, I tend to move really fast once things get romantic. I'm beginning to think I should change my ways.

You should message me if

you live in Vancouver, and you want to, I dunno, maybe get a coffee or something?
