I am quick-witted, talkative, and ironic.

My Self-Summary

I'm a friendly, outgoing extrovert person -- I find it very easy to chat with complete strangers. I'm an enthusiastic conversationalist and enjoy intense discussions on any reasonably intelligent topic.

I have read widely and travelled widely, and I enjoy both a great deal. At the moment I'm a doctoral student with a few years to go until I get my PhD. Apart from my academic work, which I find quite fulfilling, I deeply enjoy literature and the arts, music of the popular and classical varieties (I play several instruments), quality films, cooking good food, and last but not least, drinking beer in good company. Although it sounds more than a bit pompous, I'd call myself a cultured person.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a PhD student working in the fields of history and philosophy. I'm not a native of the UK -- I'm Icelandic -- but I've lived here long enough to speak the language fluently. Some people apparently can't tell that I'm not a native, which is flattering.

I’m really good at

talking, writing, computers,

The first things people usually notice about me

I just wouldn't know. Maybe my talkativeness? My lack of shyness? Most people tend to remember me, if only because I'm very outspoken and have an opinion on almost everything.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Nabokov, Dostoyevsky, Turgenev, Graham Greene, Hunter S. Thompson, J. M. Coetzee, Haruki Murakami and many, many others.

Movies: Dr. Strangelove, Apocalypse Now, The Big Lebowski are a few that spring to mind.

Music: Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Doors, Led Zeppelin and all the classic blues rock, Bob Dylan. In classical music I like Chopin, Brahms, Bach, Beethoven, Shostakovich.

Food: Anything that didn't originate in Northern European traditional cuisine. I'm a good cook. It's really quite simple: start out with good raw materials, don't burn them.

The six things I could never do without

My laptop
Caffeine
Beer
An alarm clock
The company of intelligent human beings

I spend a lot of time thinking about

philosophy
literature
politics
society

On a typical Friday night I am

having a pint with someone and chatting about bizarre, random things.

You should message me if

you're interested. Obviously.
