My self-summary
First things first: I have an amazing girlfriend who I am totally in love with. She is married, so I see less of her than I would like to. I believe that love is limitless and that it is natural and normal to love more than one person at one time. If you aren't open to the idea of polyamory/non-monogamous relationships, you can stop reading now.

I love hiking, camping, climbing, generally enjoying the outdoors. I enjoy being challenged, physically and mentally, which is why I love climbing. I also love board games, poker, hanging out at a (preferably small, cozy) bar with friends, cuddling and talking, good beer, mediocre wine, and a nice single malt. Not, necessarily, all at the same time.

My sense of humor tends to revolve around painful puns, occasional biting sarcasm, and/or random non-sequitur silliness.

I can be quiet at first. I tend to be the type to only speak when I have something significant to say. I'm improving at the art of small-talk, but it is still challenging for me. Get me going on something I am knowledgeable of and/or passionate about, though, and I might talk your ear off.

What else do you want to know about me? Just ask. Seriously. I'm an open book.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm trying not to stagnate, which is hard sometimes. I spent most of 2009 traveling and rock climbing. I still climb, but am recovering from burn-out, and not as motivated as I once was. Professionally, I'm a software developer, but that doesn't define me. Outside of work, I'm currently looking for the next project or goal to obsess about until it drives me crazy. :)
I’m really good at
Solving problems, learning new things, over-complicating things, thinking too much, being overly critical of myself, accomplishing just about anything I set my mind to.
The first things people usually notice about me
My most commented on features are my curly hair and my ass.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm a sci-fi nerd. I love Asimov, and Philip K. Dick, and Stanislaw Lem. American Gods by Neil Gaiman was a great read. I need to expand my literary taste, but I'm not sure where to start. I like Kafka and I'm sure there is a lot more "classical" literature out there I would enjoy. I haven't been reading much lately, which is a major change for me. I used to read daily.

I tend to like movies that have a unique perspective and something interesting to say, or, sometimes, that are just funny in an interesting way (I can't stand "comedy" that hinges on charactes putting themselves in embarrassing situations...this isn't funny to me...it makes me cringe). Some movies I have liked: Fargo, Fight Club, Falling Down, Pulp Fiction, Dodgeball, Little Miss Sunshine, Delicatessen, Highway 61. That's what comes to mind right now, though there are many others. On the other side of the coin, I avoid blockbusters like the plague. I have never seen Titanic or Avatar and I never intend to.

Music.... I have pretty diverse taste. Recently, I've been listening to a lot of house music (deep, soulful, funky house...there is definitely a specific sound I can't get enough of). I love electro-swing. I also still have a soft spot for punk and indie rock, as well as some folk and alt-country. Sonic Youth is an all-time favorite. Bright Eyes will always have a special place in my heart. Too much to name.

When it comes to food, I love trying new things....Indian, Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Ethiopian.... If I haven't had it before, I probably want to try it.
The six things I could never do without
There isn't much that I COULDN'T live with out, but life without beer, my iphone (how DID I live with out it?), climbing, new experiences, or good caring friends and family would be a much diminished experience.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My relationships. Whether it is worth the time commitment to start working out regularly again. What I want to do with my life next.
On a typical Friday night I am
There is no typical. See up there? All those things I enjoy doing? I'm likely doing one of them.... Or something else.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Scenes in movies/TV involving self-sacrifice and truly heroic acts make me cry uncontrollably...seriously, like fountains, and I can't make it stop.
