I'm a philosopher and author. Friends describe me as witty, funny, bright, caring, and passionate. Accordingly, I describe my friends as psychologically astute, truthful, and excellent judges of character.
I am a Milwaukee native and went to school in NYC, but swung back to the homeland to be close to my parents (it's a very small family) and do my PhD in Milwaukee. The next chapter has yet to be written. (Yes, in the book of life.) But despite how it might seem, my life does not revolve around musty books. This is one of the reasons I have turned away from pure academics. I love popular culture, and used to write about it for a newspaper. Music is a great passion of mine; I write and even played for a while, with lo-fi recordings from the 90s to prove it (and maybe disqualify me from the dating pool). I am a huge Morrissey nut and a giant fan of thrash metal, especially Slayer. But I like pop, too. I have scandalized friends by advertising my love for teeny-boppers like...well, maybe I shouldn't try my luck. Some of my other favorites, though: Spark26, The Gulags, Prince Albatross, and The Polish Twins. Not to be left out: Alkemical, Marilyn Charles, Heartache, Porpoise, The Dik-Diks, Generation Penetration, and Scar Tunnel. Oh, and definitely Casanoprah. Okay, you got me--none of these actually exist, but at least half of them should, right? Admit it.
Among movies my taste is eclectic. I like intense dramas, sweeping romances, dark thrillers, epic sci-fi treatises, raunchy comedies, non-quirky indies (because quirky indies annoy the hell out of me), historical bios, etc. With food, my only rule is no sea-food. Unless you really like it. I am very well-read in non-fiction, not so much in fiction, and I am still catching up in the fine arts, but maybe you can teach me.
On a more serious note... I am not religious but I am spiritual in a certain way--which I would love to tell you more about later. (Basically, there is an authentic moral order, life is not random or purposeless, etc.) I am definitely monogamous, absolutely not a cheater, and about the only games I play are language-games (this is a Wittgenstein reference--because geeks are sexy, right?). So come on, I'd love to hear from you. As the Polka masters (who are just a half-step below Zen masters, I kid you not) say, "Try it, you'll like it!"
