My self-summary
Paragraphs are boring. Here are random facts:
My name is Brian. I'm really picky about movies, so if I mock you because you say "The 40 Year Old Virgin" is the best movie ever, it's nothing personal. I'm very much a minimalist when it comes to any kind of art. I'm a nerd, and I'm okay with that. I enjoy cooking, and I like to think I'm pretty good at it. I like learning about interesting and abstract things like language, the invention of the number system, and theoretical physics. I play guitar, trumpet and a little piano, but I wish I played the piano much better. I prefer creamy peanut butter to crunchy. I'm a beer snob, but I won't criticize you for drinking Bud Light. (I will, however, attempt to introduce you to new and exciting beers.) I really enjoy sarcasm. My favorite comedian is probably Eddie Izzard. For some reason cats love me. I make math and science jokes on a fairly regular basis. I'm really random. My favorite sports are soccer and curling, but I like just about every sport except basketball. I know more obscure, useless facts than any one person should. I have minors in English and Journalism, so I'm a good writer, but I'm a horrific speller. I love sushi, especially eel. I get 99% of my news from Jon Stewart and NPR. This one time Jon Stewart was on NPR. I didn't know what to do with myself!
What I’m doing with my life
That's a really good question. I thought I knew, but that's recently changed. I went to school for audio post production, and did that for a while. Unfortunately, that fell through so for now I'm waiting tables and bartending. Come visit me at The Pharmacy, in East Nashville. You can have a decent burger, and a delicious beer or two. Just make sure that you tip well! Of course, why wouldn't you? I give excellent service. I'm also learning all I can about beer, and working toward getting my certification as a cicerone.
I’m really good at
I'm spectacular at identifying movies, even movies I've never seen, after viewing only a few seconds of an obscure scene. It's not a very useful talent.

I'm great at memorizing facts, especially utterly useless facts that no one will ever need or want to know. For example, wheat bread toasts faster than white bread because it's darker and reflects less of the heat. (Well, I guess that could be useful if you were in a hurry to make toast)

I play guitar pretty well and I'm a good cook, so I do have at least two semi-useful talents.
The first things people usually notice about me
They usually notice that I'm awesome!

Other than that, I'm not sure. I have red hair and a beard, so maybe one of those.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books (I'm going to list authors instead of specific books)- Italio Calvio, Martin Amis, Tennessee Williams, Gogol, Kafka, Dostoyevsky, Tim O'Brien, TC Boyle, Hemmingway, Sloane Crosley, Anthony Bourdain

Movies- Like I said, I'm picky about movies. Here are a few of my favorites: Inside Llewyn Davis, Much Ado About Nothing (Joss Whedon version), Donnie Darko, Garden State, The Usual Suspects, Stranger Than Fiction, Lost in Translation, Igby Goes Down, The Way of the Gun, The Terminal, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Serenity, Across the Universe, The Prestige, Jarhead, Juno, The Kingdom, Paris Je T'aime, Sideways, Snatch, Waiting for Guffman, No Country for Old Men, The Dark Knight, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Away We Go, Inglorious Bastards, The Hurt Locker, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Hunger, The Fighter, Django Unchained, The Social Network, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford... There are lots more. I have collection of about 200 movies. I should probably mention that I think Avatar is one of the worst movies ever made. Yes, it looks good, but that doesn't make it a good movie.

Music- The Weakerthans/John K Samson, Guster, Damien Rice, Ben Folds/Five, Iron and Wine, The Mountain Goats, Death Cab for Cutie, The Old 97s, Regina Spektor, Hotel Lights, The Shins, The Paperbacks, Cake, The Submarines, Wilco, early Weezer, Popular Genius

TV- Lost, Futurama, Community, Arrested Development, Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe, Scrubs, The Colbert Report, Modern Marvels, King of the Hill, Firefly, House, South Park, The Daily Show, The Office, Dexter, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, How I Met Your Mother, Top Chef, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, The Riches, Top Gear (the UK version), horrible reality TV because it makes me feel so much better about my life

Food- I love food! I'll eat just about anything. I hate mayonnaise, and I'm not a fan of cream cheese. That's about where my food dislikes end.

I'm going to add a radio/podcast section because that's what I listen to most of the time- Stuff You Should Know, This American Life, Wits, On Point with Tom Ashbrook, Craft Beer Radio, Car Talk, Talk of the Nation, StarTalk, Stuff You Missed in History Class, virtually anything on NPR
The six things I could never do without
Amazingly delicious food
Craft beer
NPR/WPLN
Good movies
My guitar
Dental floss
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think about all kinds of random stuff like life, theology, theoretical sciences, lunch; pretty much anything and everything.

That light traveling in a vacuum doesn't age. How crazy is that?

The fact that light is both a wave and a particle, and that there are different sized infinities.

And food. I think about food all the time.
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm either doing something or nothing. It just depends on the Friday.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I hate Shark Week! There, I said it....*

*I used to hate Shark Week because it interrupted the good programming on Discovery. Since there is very little good programming on Discovery now I'm not as upset about it.
