among some of my favorite authors are edith wharton, nabokov, roth, bohumil hrabal, willa cather, carver, zizek, steinbeck, roberto bolano, borges, and herge (i could re-read tintin all day, but find myself categorically uninterested in any other comic/graphic novel). i read Snow Crash recently (SO excellent!), and am currently being totally reconfigured by A Heart So White.

a party platter of films that have exacted pleasure: elizabethtown; loves of a blonde; the cook, the thief, his wife, and her lover; all the real girls; once upon a time in the west; until the end of the earth; hud. in recent months, i was left pretty marked by Blue is the Warmest Color (totally transporting moment! : ). it seems worth mentioning here that i'm probably not interested in watching tv with you; that's strictly reserved for self-annihilating solo sessions.

i listen to all manner of music, but these guys get some serious repeat business: ryan adams, duran duran, metric, wild flag, bob dylan, bruce springsteen, tom waits, wanda jackson, stooges, the hold steady, lucius, dvorak, mulatu astatke, sleep. and i'm pretty undiscriminating when it comes to euro top 40 (see: but i haven't been listening to music lately? i don't know what that's about.

i like good olive oil, and fish served with the head still on. also poutine, and oysters. food is the champion of my mind and heart.

sour beers and whiskey sours.

Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
million dollar ideas, things i cannot control, and marked change in the weather

"M. Laruelle wondered if it was going to rain : it sometimes, though rarely, did at this time of year, as last year for instance, it rained when it should not. And those were storm clouds in the south. He imagined he could smell the rain, and it ran in his head he would enjoy nothing better than to get wet, soaked through to the skin, to walk on and on through this wild country in his clinging white flannels getting wetter and wetter and wetter. He watched the clouds: dark swift horses surging up the sky. A black storm breaking out of its season! That was what love was like, he thought ; love which came too late. "
