My self-summary Propose an edit
fun follows me and my fantastic self
- i love to watch movies of all sorts (i think it's due to the
stories), not as excited about tv (except i am a law & order
junkie and newly glued to CNN, given the presidential
election)
- my friends say that the sound of my laughter makes them feel
happier about their lot in the world and i just won the 'best laugh
in the office' award for 3 jobs running.
- i love to sing. i used to wish i was julie andrews (and yes, i
can quote the sound of music word for word).
- i enjoy learning about the connections between all people (i love
playing the kevin bacon game with real people).
- i say i like things to be simple, but secretly love the myriad
complexities that make me who i am and you who you are.
(the above kinda sounds cheesy to me as of late...but hey, i like
to alternate between cheesy and serious. it keeps everyone
guessing.)
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
wahoo - new job at the kennedy school! hopefully, it'll help me
meet more of the 'right' people to get into public service and
figure out next steps.
i'm hoping to take classes there, possibly putting them towards an
MPA...i'm still trying to decide about starting another masters
sometime in 09-10 around int'l relations/communications/education -
maybe even an mba in nonprofit mgmt? since i'm a bit
discombobulated at the moment, i may hold off on that decision
(such a good word!)
life-wise: just enjoying the ride now, seeing where it goes. still
exploring boston (even though i've been here 3 years) - i was in
nyc before with a short stint in tucson.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
being me...well, most times.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
depends on where they meet me. i could be at the center of all
activity, like a whirling dervish or social butterfly -- or sitting
in a corner, people-watching while drinking a glass of wine or
beer. i telescope in and out of social situations at will.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
(a) celestine prophecy; she's come undone; good in bed; bowling
alone; the time traveler's wife; eat pray love; the parable of the
sower; the economist
on the reading list: the post-american world; the kite runner
recently finished 'a golden age' by tahmima anam. i'll admit it - i
like chick lit, but also sci-fi and political (clancy, etc) novels.
i'm working on increasing my nonfiction reading (tom friedman,
peter singer, etc) but i tend to read about 10 things at once (so
it takes me a while to finish all of them)
(b) moulin rouge; hable con ella; pirates of the caribbean;
anything with johnny depp or christian bale; goonies; whale rider;
bourne identity; hotel rwanda; practical magic; love actually;
lucia y el sexo; veronica guerin; boondock saints; goonies (i can
quote it in entirety)
(c) i like just about all music (except
my-guy-left-me-my-horse-dumped-me-i-was-fired country) - favs
include jazz, chick rock i can sing along to (more like belt out),
stravinsky, ozomatli, sarah mclachlan, 80s, si*se, arkestra one,
morcheeba; sade; billie holiday; yo la tengo
(d) spanish; puerto rican; mediterranean (but i love to experiment
- ethiopian, indian, vietnamese, whatever); and i heart reese's
peanut butter cups
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
music, other living presences (family/friends/dog/etc), books,
sunlight, water/beach, and (it hurts to admit) my new iphone
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
what the hell i'm doing here (as in this world, this time period,
this city, this existence) - and why my dog likes to sniff
everything under the sun while we're out for a run (thereby yanking
my arm off every 45 seconds)
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
watching a movie; hanging with friends; playing poker; listening to
a band; reading something; whatever random thing i or friends cook
up
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
i am torn. from childhood, my allegiance has been to the
yankees...but as i love my new home of boston, i feel i should
become a fan of the red sox. this internal struggle causes many a
sleepless night.
You should message me if Propose an edit
you are someone who can make me laugh & make my toes curl, has
a good heart & a sexy brain, and is passionate about something
(work, play, hiking, family, travel, books, whatever - as long as
your eyes light up when you talk about it/them).
it'd be pretty damn sweet if you like to travel or want to live
abroad someday (even if it's only a year or a semester). oh, and if
you can teach me how to drive stick-shift, that'd be cool too.
