What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
As a PhD student, I do work as school as work. My days are filled with research questions (and hopefully answers at some point), exams to mark and MATLAB error messages.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
-Using analogies to answer questions
-Finding small things that make me laugh
-Dicing vegetables

Things I'm really bad at but would like to improve upon:
-Sports: my effortless lack of coordination is legendary but I still very much love to play ball hockey, badminton and flag football. Hiking's cool too.
-Computer programming: the other day it took me an hour to perfect three lines of code. If you can tell the operational differences between smooth brackets (), curly brackets {}, and square brackets [], I'm impressed.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have many dimples. If I smile really wide, I think I can squeeze out four of them.

I'm susceptible to a case of the giggles when someone makes a clever pun. No idea why they are so funny.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Aside from Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes, I am very partial to non-fiction. Popular science books (e.g., Blink, Freakonomics, The Selfish Gene, The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat) top the list but I am gradually being drawn to books on politics and history.

I will give anything nominated for an Oscar a chance. I enjoy witty comedies and intriguing dramas. Truly scary movies will probably give me nightmares.

Mad Men, House of Cards, Breaking Bad, the Daily Show, Good Eats.

Music: My taste lags 5 years behind the rest of society.

Food: I love to cook! I am perpetually looking for people who will eat whatever I feel like making. Anyone in the mood for braised fennel?
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Intellectual stimulation
Sushi-pho-gyros (counts as one)
Public transit
Nearby bodies of water
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to counterbalance experimental conditions between and across participants.

Actually, I am quite the news junkie and I get very excited around election time. Politics is the ultimate nerd contact sport- there are all these big shots trying to fight their way to the top and the numerous gaffes and debates along the way are awesome and hilarious.
