I must also say i'm one of the most laid-back people I know. Some people call it lazy, but I don't put much stock in those people. My laid-back tendency is distinctly different from laziness. To be fair, I can be quite lazy, but even when I'm getting things done I always like to take it at a smooth pace. It's just kind of the way I am.
I'm also very much an agnostic. I was raised by my Christian mother so I still have some moral holdovers from that, but there came a day when I realized that there were some significant areas in which morally and intellectually I could not reconcile the Bible with what I experienced to be true, particularly when it comes to the science of the origin of life and to the equality of all people regardless of sex, gender or orientation. I also believe in race equality, for the record, but I don't think the Bible has as much of an inherent disagreement with that. I consider myself atheist to an extent because in my experience perfect beings don't exist. I do enjoy discussions involving philosophy, theology and science or any combination of those. Especially science though.
I am a scientist, philosopher and human.
I'm about to start an internship at a start up company assisting with C programming in the development of speech recognition applications. It promises to be an interesting job.
I'm also really good at detail-oriented tasks. I'm a math guru, I memorize things fairly easily and I can follow a map like nobody's business (i suppose that's more spatial reasoning, but whatever). I also find that so long as I pay attention, I can usually retrace my steps pretty effectively, though if I'm distracted, which is not uncommon, this ability drops sharply.
I speak German fluently, though I've gotten a bit rusty since I've been back for a couple years.
Personality-wise I'm quite a nerd. I can be a bit shy and awkward, but if you want to talk science or video games or sci fi or anime I'm usually pretty excited. Someone once compared my conversation/humor style with long-form improv. I'll take it, though that kind of interaction doesn't normally happen right at first.
Movies/TV: The Labyrinth (and just about anything else by Jim Henson), Hook, Stranger Than Fiction, Young Frankenstein, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Shawn of the Dead, The Meaning of Life, Dr. Strangelove, Wristcutters, Star Trek (TOS and TNG. that's right biches, i'll say it, i like both), Arrested Development, Avatar, The Daily Show, Dead Like Me, Brazil, Inglorious Basterds, and so on
Music: Alice Cooper; Amanda Palmer; America; Arlo Guthrie; Bach; Beatles; Beethoven; Ben Folds; Billy Joel; Bing Crosby; Chicago; Chuck Berry; CCR; David Bowie; Doobie Brothers; Earth, Wind & Fire; Elton John; Fiona Apple; Flight of the Conchords (that show is amazing and i'll fight anyone who says otherwise); Frank Sinatra; Gilbert O'Sullivan; Gorillaz; Herman's Hermits; Iz; James Taylor; Joe Cocker; John Lennon; Johnny Cash; Legend of Zelda Soundtrack; Louis Armstrong; Ludo; Michael Jackson; Muppet Treasure Island Soundtrack; Nat King Cole; Paul McCartney & the Wings; Paul Simon; Pink Floyd; Queen; REM; Ray Charles; Regina Spektor; Simon & Garfunkle; Tenacious D; Three Dog Night; Tim Curry; Trans-Siberian Orchestra; Twisted Sister; White Stripes; Wild Cherry; William Shatner (that's at least most of the major ones).
Food: I like a lot of foods: Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Cajun, and pretty much any other cuisine. One major thing I don't like is anything containing large pieces, like big chunks of potato. It could taste great, but it's hard for me to get over that sort of texture. Also, I am not vegetarian, but I definitely limit my meat consumption because first of all the average American diet has way too much meat in it and I also realize real moral reasons for not eating meat, but I'm not hardcore enough to cut it out altogether.
Video Games (because i must): any of the zeldas except majora's mask (ocarina of time remains, in my mind, pretty much the best game ever); any of the metroids (and yes, i have played and beat metroid prime 3: corruption and it is awesome); star fox; super mario rpg: legend of the seven stars (and any other mario game for super nintendo including all stars); kirby superstar; super smash bros (original, melee, or brawl . . . it doesn't really matter they're all pure magic); kingdom hearts; all of the final fantasys except 9; starcraft (as far as i'm concerned it's the holy grail of pc games and i can't wait for starcraft II to be released); chrono trigger (wanna play chrono cross); battle cars; the descents; descent: freespace (it's a completely different class of game than the others); halo; pokemon snap; suikoden 1, 2, and 3 (i have yet to play 4 or 5, but i'm optimistic); all the donkey kong games through dk 64 (haven't played beyond that); every classic-style megaman since 7 (before that they're just too awkward); shadowrun (for snes); tales of symphonia; chrono cross and . . . psh, others too.
(Any questions, feel free to ask.)
family (we're pretty tight)
cigarettes (working on that . . addiction's a bitch)
I also like to think about all the assumptions that make daily life possible that aren't necessarily true. For instance, there's the chance that none of my memories happened. Originally I discounted that because I figured they must be happening because I'm forming new ones all the time, but the more I think about it the more I realize that any given instant could actually be the first instance of my existence and everything before that is just artificial memory. I think therefore I am, but that doesn't necessarily mean I was.
(Please, if you decide to message me, make it a comment or a question or something. A new person messaging "sup" or "how are you" doesn't do much for starting conversations)
