My self-summary
Before we get started: I signed up here to spend less time at my computer and more time being social. Didn't you? But for each date I go on, I find I must spend hours staring at a screen, trying to impress some stranger over the Internet. And honestly, I don't need another excuse to spend more time at my computer.

Here's an alternative that I think is more fun: If you like my profile and I like yours, let's skip the days of trying to show off with clever emails and just meet up for coffee or happy hour, and learn about each other through actual face-to-face interaction.

This way, we both spend less time on a dating site, and have more free time to spend doing something interesting.

My self-summary (really this time):

I'm a geek, an atheist, and an introvert. I spend a bit too much of my spare time on my computer, and the rest of it hanging out with friends, reading, watching movies, playing games, figuring out how to change the world, and anything else to distract me from whatever I'm probably supposed to be doing.

I've been dabbling in polyamory lately, and I find it works very well for me. I'm comfortable with emotionally and physically intimate but non-exclusive relationships. (It takes a LOT of communication to make it work, but then, doesn't any real relationship?)
What I’m doing with my life
Slowly winding my way towards a spiritually and intellectually fulfilling career in a field that I care deeply about. (It's taking longer than I hoped!)
I’m really good at
Solving problems. Particularly involving computers. It's what I get paid for.
The first things people usually notice about me
Either that I'm really quiet and shy, or that I'm really talkative, depending on when and where you meet me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't really have favorites. I like variety more than I like any one thing. Here are just a few select examples from each category.

Books: Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Richard Feynman, Orson Scott Card. Veniss Underground; Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town; Cronopios y Famas. The Thirteen Clocks, The Little Prince, and Shel Silverstein.

Movies: Not even gonna try to answer this one. I like An eclectic mix, from mainstream blockbusters to obscure indie stuff.

Music: Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Freescha, Sufjan Stevens, Magnetic Fields, Barenaked Ladies, The National, Death Cab for Cutie, Architecture in Helsinki, Vince Guaraldi.

Food: Yes. Food is a favorite. I love to cook, too. Or perhaps I love to eat good food, and cooking is a means to an end.

Comics: Calvin and Hobbes, xkcd, PBF, Garfield Minus Garfield, Questionable Content, Mimi and Eunice, I Killed Adolf Hitler.
Plays: Tom Stoppard and David Ives are great.
Podcasts: Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me, Radiolab, Planet Money, 99% Invisible, BBC Friday Night Comedy.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, hugs, adventures, parmesan cheese, a good book... and, yes, the internet. As they say: home is where you hang your @.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I don't really think of myself as an activist or a religious person, but I do have a strong set of beliefs and philosophies that guide my moral decisions, and I try to apply them to everything I do.

I wonder if the Occupiers and the Tea Partiers will ever stop calling each other names long enough to realize that they're both upset about a lot of the same things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends, or zoning out at home after too many hours at work. I am probably not at a bar, or dancing at a loud party. That's not to say that I don't enjoy these activities occasionally, just that they're not the norm for me.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Intimacy and the processes surrounding it -- meeting a stranger, gradually and mutually opening up and sharing yourselves with each other, eventually becoming close -- are tremendously fascinating to me. If (to paraphrase a favorite author) any sufficiently complex system is indistinguishable from magic, than people are pretty magical.

I'm tactile and kinesthetic. I experience the world as much with my hands and body as with my eyes and ears. I pace; I fiddle; I tinker; I drum. I'm a big fan of hugs, cuddling, and holding hands. A gentle touch can mean the same thing to me that a smile might mean to somebody else.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 24–34
  • Near me
  • For new friends, short-term dating, activity partners, long-distance penpals
You should message me if
You're the sort of person who is always looking to make the most of your life; to learn, challenge and enrich yourself with new experiences; and to share all this with others.

I'm looking for friends (of any gender/orientation/identity) as well as dates. I love meeting new people. If there's a museum/play/movie/restaurant/bar/hike/concert/adventure you've been looking for a chance to do or see, let's do it together!
