My self-summary
I love that this is free. I love free things. And breakfast. I'm on here to expand my social circle and hopefully meet that special someone. I should say right up front two things:

1) I love talking about ideas, whether you agree or disagree, so if you have a question or thought send me a line.

2) Although I'll talk about anything with anyone, I will only seriously date someone who loves Jesus. And I say it that way on purpose because if you don't like that statement, you won't like me.

(And I'm an INFP. If you know what that is - bonus points.)
What I’m doing with my life
I am teaching high school Spanish and working in an after-school program at a daycare. I'm learning Arabic via Rosetta Stone (for the fun of it), still reading War and Peace, enjoying re-connecting with my extended family after living away from them for many years, and plotting a trip to the British Isles this summer.
I’m really good at
analysing and expressing myself, although I don't usually tell many people what I've found out.
acting like I know the answer even when I don't.
finishing books in a day. (Except for War and Peace.)
empathizing.
making little kids like me.
The first things people usually notice about me
Appearance: My outfit. Today someone described my look as "whimsical, modern, and hip." The whimsical comes from my penchant for second-hand clothes, the modern from that it fits right, and the hip usually from the hat.

Personality: I seem really sweet up front but I have this perverse desire to do the unexpected in social situations. So people might get the impression that I'm "nice but not polite," "quiet but not shy," "accepting but not uncritical," and lastly, "a little odd."
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books (from recent to classic): Hunger Games, Way of Kings, Do Hard Things, Persuasion, Cry the Beloved Country, East of Eden

Movies: It's a Wonderful Life, Lord of the Rings, Anne of Green Gables, That Thing You Do, The Princess Bride, Pride and Prejudice

Shows: Gilmore Girls, 24, Lie to Me, Downton Abbey

Music: Top Pandora stations - Nickel Creek, Flamenco, Kim Walker-Smith, Zoot Suit Riot - but nothing in excess

Food: I like food. I'm none too picky.

And a list, in no particular order, of other random facts about me:
1. I found out yesterday that my favorite flowers are called lipstick roses.

2. I usually have the Olympic theme stuck in my head.

3. I want someone to sing "las mananitas" to me on my birthday.

4. I think I was meant to live by the ocean.

5. I like long movies, the longer the better. I thought King Kong, for instance, was a good length, as was the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice.

6. I wonder about being blonde.

7. If you ask me to record you a book on tape, I probably will.

8. I regret that the days of churning your own butter are in the past.

9. I have footie pajamas. I wear them.

10. Some people say if I were an animal I would be a cow. I disagree. My favorite person in the world told me I would be a unicorn. She’s my favorite because she said that.

11. Carcinogen is onomatopoeic.

12. I regularly think of how to say things backward in my head.

13. I wonder about the difference between words that end in –ward and –wards. Toward/towards, backward/backwards, etc. Apparently as adverbs they’re interchangeable but I continue searching for a nuance of usage that will indicate which one I should choose.

14. Items like number 13 make me think I would never do well on reality television.

15. On long drives, I cannot stand to have music on the whole time. Every two hours or so I have to have at least a five-minute period of background silence.

16. Long drives are the only time I enjoy country music.

17. I’m not a pet person. Show me an animal, and I will show you complete disinterest. However, this might be a moral failing, and I have recently added to my life goals list item #89: Make friends with an animal. I think I would prefer it be a dog.

18. My life goals list is currently lost, thus #89 is an arbitrary numeral. Arbitrary #47 is Don’t have any bad habits.

19. The number of people in a room inversely relates with how long I can stay in it.

20. Ballet, Astronomy, and John Donne were my favorite undergraduate classes.

21. I’ve stopped packing carry-on items for plane, train, and car trips because I never find time to use them.

22. This list was written for Facebook back in 2009 when everyone was filling out 25 things about themselves. I just re-read it today and liked it again, except not so much items 22-25, so here we end.
The six things I could never do without
I pride myself on being able to do without things, so, while I could imagine doing without these things ("never" is so strong), I'd prefer not to.

1. The Holy Spirit in me
2. Dearly beloved people
3. Information sources
4. Access to beauty
5. Outlets for expression
6. Children
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I'm going to teach tomorrow
Steps to make everything in life more efficient and more ideal
On a typical Friday night I am
Changing the plan I made on Friday afternoon
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a recovering hopeless romantic, which means I expect less but still sometimes dream of more.
