My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Loving Father, Professional Rabble-Rouser, Amateur Musician

I'm a serious yet light-hearted guy who is able to find humor in many things and can laugh at myself (My life provides me with plenty of good material). Because of this I’m able to handle stressful situations and deal well under pressure. I’m a firm believer that everything will be all right.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am strongly affected by social and political injustices and am very committed to social change. When I was 20 I worked in a group home for teenagers in custody of the state, and we tried to organize a union. I was so into it that I ended up dropping out of college and going to work for the union full time. I later went back to school, but have been fortunate to be employed working for justice ever since. I worked on the national staff of a grassroots community organization for 12 years, and am currently working for another labor union doing campaign strategy and research.

Seven years ago I bought a house that had been vacant and a real dump, even though I'm not very handy and changing a light bulb still makes me feel like Bob Avila. I did a lot of work to fix it up and for the most part didn't have to pay someone to undo the damage I caused (for the most part). It was a good low pressure situation to learn in because the house was in such bad condition that almost anything I did was an improvement (almost).

I play acoustic guitar and electric bass. I had stopped playing music because I was too busy with kids and work, but made a conscious effort to bring music back into my life.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
being a dad. I have two sons, 16 and 12, and a 6 year old daughter who are a central part of my life, and who I consciously try to raise right. I get a huge kick out of them and like the challenge of trying to understand what's going on inside their heads. I usually try to get out and do things with them rather than hang around inside where I tend to want to get other things done. So that means going to the museums, zoos, parks, lakes, festivals, plays, puppet shows, etc.

I'm also really good at
- Empathizing
- Admitting when I'm wrong
- Snapping really loud
- Figuring out how to outsmart microsoft word so I can do what I want rather than what it thinks I want to do
- Remembering details and things that happened a long time ago

TV: Louis CK, 30 Rock, Community, Parks and Rec, Portlandia

Music:: I tend to have the same musical taste as older African-American women (Motown, 60's soul, James Brown), but also still enjoy the indie/punk songs from my high school days in the mid 80's. Some other main stays are Springsteen, Steve Earle, Neville Brothers, Sly and the Family Stone, the Clash. Gil Scott Herron, Patti Smith, and Sharon Jones.

I tend to find out about new music from the Current.

Movies: John Sayles, Hilary Swank, Charlie Kaufman. I also can't help laughing at anything with Will Ferrell or Steve Carrell. Was incredibly touched by "Hurricane," which I finally saw. Didn't know it was going to be so powerful. Ditto to "Billy Elliot," which was touching in a different way.

Books:I love to read, mostly fiction, but always like when i find those non-fiction books that grip you like a good story. I keep a list of books I want to read and then request them from the library. My most recent reads were Blasphemy by Sherman Alexie, Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon, The Round House by Louise Erdrich, and Freedom by Jonathan Franzen.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
- Coffee
- Music
- Books
- Sunshine (at least intermittent)
- Some kind of furry animal (actually, I can live without one, I just go through severe withdrawal)
- More coffee
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
why my daughter is obsessed with pink, glitter, princesses, and babies, and I think a lot about how I should best react to it.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
It all depends on what combination of my children I have and what's going on. For instance, this Friday night we're going to see my son's friend in Peter Pan.

I have never tweeted. By now, I've waited so long that I want my first tweet to be special, but can't really imagine anything that I would ever want to tweet about.

What do you think? To tweet or not to tweet?

you're looking to form a mutual admiration society.

It would be great to find someone whom I can admire, be proud of and cheer on. And coincidentally, I would like someone who will admire, be proud of, and cheer me on. Someone to laugh at my jokes and who can make me laugh. Someone who will understand me and appreciate that i understand them.

It would also be fun to see some Lynx games this summer.
