I am pedantic, pragmatic, and zany.
My Self-Summary
I've been
vegetarian for 10 years now, but I'm
not annoying about it though I won't let people keep meat in my
fridge or cook it for them. Despite this (depending on your
preferences), I am an excellent cook.
I like
science a
lot, and it contributes to a lot of my personal philosophy.
Sometimes I don't want to talk to people because I'm worried that
they will be flaky and I will have to hurt their feelings if we get
past small talk. I'm getting past that, but it may be because most
of the people I've met in Vancouver have a pretty good head on
their shoulders.
I'm more of an extrovert than I used to believe I was, though I
still don't enjoy crowds or really loud people.
While I do a pretty good sarcastic deadpan shtick, I am usually
pretty honest and candid once I am comfortable with someone.
I don't drive, and don't like the effects cars have on urban
atmospheres. Aesthetic atmospheres, not just chemical ones. I'm
thinking in terms of the noise they create, the aggression they
frequently stir in drivers, and the constant threat of instant
death as a pedestrian or cyclist.
I have no interest in witnessing the further perpetuation of the
human species. You'll note the previous phrase is far less damning
than your initial reading of it probably suggested.
See, I told you I was pedantic.
What I’m doing with my life
Yet another degree, this time in computer science. I'm finding
programming fairly fun.
I rode about 5000 km on my bike(s) last year, which was totally
awesome. These days I pretty much only have time to ride to school,
but I still get a few weekend rides in.
I have a habit of picking up weird fitness interests from time to
time. No spare time right now, but here are some things I've done
recently: distance running, aerial dance, gymnastics. Bodyweight
exercises are always fun. Things I would like to do eventually:
BJJ, 'professional' wrestling (the goofy, acrobatic, showy style),
a strong(wo)man competition (primarily for the tire flipping), and
a hell of a lot more bike touring and
randonneuring.
I’m really good at
Making things from scratch, sticking with daunting tasks, coming up
with totally random things.
The first things people usually notice about me
My big blue eyes, that I'm RIGHT BEHIND THEM (I tend to walk
quickly, and I suppose quietly). Occasionally, the completely
ridiculous costume I am wearing. I would like to think that they
notice my muscles, but that's probably only if I am trying hard to
make them obvious.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
A) Voet and Voet's Biochemistry, Myra Kornfeld's The Voluptuous
Vegan. Novels don't really inspire me a lot these days, though they
do entertain me. B)
Phantom of the Paradise
C) most
Charles Mingus and
Ken Vandermark, but
I could probably listen to Boogie Wonderland (
Earth, Wind, and
Fire) all day. I also seem to really be into modern Norwegian
jazz lately. D) It would be very mean to make me answer this, and I
really like a lot of different foods. I have a secret weakness for
macaroni and cheese with hot sauce and veggie dogs sliced into it,
though.
The six things I could never do without
1) some free time, 2) food with flavour and roughage, 3) at least
bi-weekly boning, 4) regular exercise, 5) a comfy bed, 6) someone
to listen to my inane prattle
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
Having a beer with my husband, < >.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I really enjoy hearing German. I name all my bikes, and they
usually have genders too.
