Games - be it puzzles, board games, video games, I love the mental challenge of figuring things out and solving problems, whether it's just a challenge for myself or against others.
Cooking - I don't often cook for just myself, but give me someone or something to cook for and I'll give it my all, usually with great results.
Chatting - whether you're looking for a meaningful discussion, a quick-witted and sarcastic bout of humor, or just a good and patient listener, I'm your man.
Any Batman movie (old ones and new ones, for different reasons). "Bad" movies like Dinoshark or The Room that are funnier than most comedies, even if by total accident. Good movies that have that cerebral aspect, like Fight Club, Memento, Primer, Shutter Island, Inception. Occasionally I'm in the mood for goofy comedies like Anchorman, Zoolander, Pitch Perfect. Cult classics like Rocky Horror and Evil Dead. And Back to the Future. Miyazaki films are great as well.
The Wire, so so good. Firefly. Archer. Adventure Time. Clone High. Venture Bros. Top Gear. Comedies like Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Community, Parks & Rec, The IT Crowd. Someday I'll actually work my way through Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, and maybe even Star Trek.
Music is all over the place.
Lots of swing jazz, old and new. Django, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton are some favorites.
Progressive rock - Coheed, Porcupine Tree, Rush.
Rock - Foo Fighters, Gaslight Anthem, Black Keys.
Metal - Blind Guardian, Opeth, Iron Maiden.
Gorillaz. Parov Stelar. And many more!
Live shows I've seen: Coheed and Cambria (x5? I've lost count, love them live), Foo Fighters, Incubus, Opeth, Symphony X, AFI, Blind Guardian, The Offspring, Sigur Ros, probably more I'm forgetting.
I'll pretty much try any food once, and there are very few things I don't end up liking. The weirdest thing I ended up enjoying was roasted chicken hearts - they kinda taste like beef, oddly enough. I like sushi, Indian, Thai, Mexican, and am always looking to expand my foodie horizons, but sometimes I just want the simplicity of pasta and meatballs or a good juicy burger.
Also, I've developed a taste for craft beers, much to my wallet's chagrin. Porters and stouts are absolutely my favorites, along with doppelbocks and other rich, smooth, hearty beers. I'm not big on overly hoppy stuff like most IPAs. I've visited quite a few breweries, Ommegang had the best beer and food by far.
Cats would be on this list too, but unfortunately I have to live without them right now :(
I realize everyone says mostly the same things here, so for an addendum, six things that make life worth living:
- Autumn in the northeast
- An afternoon nap on a rainy day
- Hot chocolate on a snowy day
- A random chat to catch up with an old friend
- Road trips and hotel rooms with great friends and the incredible conversations they create
- Dancing all day and night until your legs are too tired to move, then waking up early next morning to do it all over again
I will admit that I often sing or dance along to music when nobody's around to see or hear. Few things make me happier than driving along, windows down, music up, singing loudly but poorly to all my favorite songs.
