playful, tender, and complex
My self-summary Propose an edit
On the surface, I'm playful, flirtatious, smart, and sometimes
intense. Inside you'll find a deeply idealistic,
spiritually-minded, caring being. I seek to apply what I learn from
spirituality in order to create a tomorrow that is better than the
world of today. Close friends tell me that I come off as somewhat
of an enigma... a bit hidden or mysterious. Well, sometiems I'm a
mystery to me too!
I like to touch, hug, move, laugh and discover.
I spend my free time reading, dancing (mostly tango and blues), cycling when the weather's good (rode my
first century last summer! and hardly at all this summer. weird.),
occasionally skiing, knitting, painting, gardening or just hanging out in
Portland's many great cafes.
I strive to become more centered, and increasingly learn to really
listen to and love the beings around me. Relationship and matters
of soul have always
been deeply important to me. I'm also conscious of where my food
comes from, and how the things I use and purchase affect the
greater world.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
For work, I currently divide my time between my graphic design
business and serving as an assistant teacher at a Waldorf
school.
In my spare time, I am learning "Non Violent Communication" and
feel extremely optimistic about where this may take me personally
and professionally! It's a valuable tool for relationships and for
my future career: I intend to pursue graduate work in psychology,
with an emphasis on couples counseling.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
- Making beautiful things... this includes graphic design, knitting, home-cooked meals, painting, singing.
- Finding information, reading maps, and solving random problems.
- Playing Scrabble and Pictionary.
- Communicating: sharing what it going on inside me, exploring what is going on inside others; I'm gradually getting better at really listening deeply.
- Making cookies, muffins, and the world's best salads.
- Oh yeah, and I've been known to take IQ tests for fun.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
I've heard a few things: my eyes, my smile, my (often loud) laugh,
my eyebrows (!)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I love food, especially if it's fresh, organic and with multiple textures. If I
eat out, I tend to opt for Vietnamese, Thai, Sushi, or so-called
"creative american". In the summer, I have a CSA share from an
organic/biodynamic farm, which brings me a
large amount of fresh veggies every week - many of them things I
didn't buy previously. I enjoy the adventure of discovering what to
do with them... and eating the results! Mmmmm
I read a lot of Rudolf Steiner, the founder of
Waldorf education
and the spiritual movement known as Anthroposophy. I typically start
my mornings with this!
My favorite author is Barbara Kingsolver, "Prodigal
Summer" being an all-time favorite. Her non-fiction is good, too:
well-though-out progressive perspectives on ecology and
society.
I like live theater ... movies with depth and
heart... (things like Big Fish, Gattica, and Life is Beautiful top
my list) and music with an acoustic aesthetic (from celtic to
oldskool blues/jazz, folk to classical). I would love someone to
introduce me to local artists I might enjoy.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Touch.
Sunshine.
Learning, meaning, purpose and community.
Really good produce.
Internet (sadly!)
Beautiful bodies of water.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Communication, spirituality, human relationships, and "what is the
meaning and goal of this particular life I'm living?"
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
- spending some time alone relaxing
- dancing tango
- out playing with friends (perhaps having a drink at a mellow venue, catching some music, eating good food, hanging out with my great roommate zigzagzow, celebrating a birthday or other events, or just relaxing at the house with a homemade meal and a good movie.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm deeply emotional: I love fully, laugh loudly, and don't believe
tears are a bad thing. (even in bed)
You should message me if Propose an edit
You share my belief that relationship is a path, a journey, a
spiritual experience — in other words, a process, not an end
solution. If you also imagine that we are beings in the process of
becoming, and see relationship as a way to help that unfold for
both people, then we're probably well on our way to being
compatible. You understand that relationship is "work" but that
this is the "good work" that transforms the world. I also look for
someone who is "creative" in the broadest sense of the word: from
music to garden to the texture of your soul. It also helps if
you're patient, curious, open, holistic, tender, and have a good
sense of who you are.
In a romantic relationship I seek similar values and a partnership
in which we both grow; I would like to have children; I would like
to share my spiritual journey with someone on a similar journey.
I'd also like to explore the world, and contribute to the world
together... whatever that might look like.
But even if the chemistry or perfect fit isn't there, I trust, and
enjoy, exploring friendships with kindred spirits.
