My Self-Summary
My name is Tim Gulley, and like most people, I find it a bit challenging to decide just what to put in this box. How does one fit an entire life's summary into a neat little box anyway?
Well, the person I strive to be is adventurous, bold, intelligent, philosophical, outgoing, friendly, kind, loyal, passionate, open minded...and many other things, I'm sure.
I've discovered I have a passion for flying and the skies in general, as well as world travel. I've definitely been bitten by the travel bug, and to date, I've been to 8 foreign countries and crossed both the Atlantic and the Pacific in the process. In fact, I was just thinking the other day that it'd be cool to take a vacation that literally spans the globe. I mean, I think it'd be cool to say I've literally traveled around the world. Don't you? Just the idea of setting out on an adventure that spans the globe amuses me to no end. But then again, who wouldn't it, right?
Anyway, on the topic of the skies, I've also gone skydiving a time or two (or 13). I'm definitely a thrill-seeker when I'm afforded the opportunity. (That is to say when I'm not huddled over a textbook.) Hey, work hard, play hard, right?
What can I say, I enjoy flirting with danger! It excites me, and after coming closer to death than most would care to think about, I've developed a new respect for life. In fact, I think some people actually fear death too much. It happens to the best of us ya know. I just want to get the most I can out of life before it eventually happens.
Anyway, I also have a bit of an activist spirit in me (damn the man). I hate big government; I think everyone should vote, no excuses; and I constantly feel the urge to stand up for all that's right in the world and call the BS when I see it. Let's face it, for better or worse, there's a lot of it out there. Greed, corruption, ignorance, bigotry...take your pick. And sometimes, some one just needs to stand up, raise their voice, and say "THAT'S NOT RIGHT!"
...but I digress lol.
I consider myself to be a pretty friendly person; I strive to be an open book; and as cliche as it may sound, you can never truly have too many friends. Indeed, friendship is certainly a worthy goal. That said though, it would be great if I met a special someone who could touch my heart beyond the extent of friendship, who I could cultivate a positive, uplifting relationship with, and with whom I could experience all life has to offer - a companion, a friend, and a soul mate.
That's no small task!
Like many, I've had my heart broken before, and being a passionate person, I've experienced that painful process all too well. I wouldn't have it any other way though (living passionately that is, not so much the heartbreak), and I believe I've learned to strike a balance between learning from my mistakes and just being scarred. It can be a fine line at times, don't you think?
Anyway, that's just a bit about me. If you'd like to know more, hit me up for a nice chat. I'm pretty easy to get along with.

What I’m doing with my life
It's a mouthful, I know. But hey, it should look good on a resume, right?
I'm currently developing a product as my senior design project that will be growing beyond the scope of the class. In fact, I was recently accepted into a grant-funded program at the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center (a.k.a. the NIIC), and I'm very excited about the potential the project holds in general. It has changed my outlook on future possibilities (the prospect of entrepreneurship) and has helped re-ignite my excitement for technology that has been dulled by years of nose-to-the-grindstone work at IPFW.
If all goes as planned, I'll be graduating at the end of the year, and I can't WAIT to be done! By the time I am done, I will have put 6 years of blood, sweat, and tears into college life, and I'd better be rakin it in by the time I'm done, that's all I've gotta say lol!
Once I've finally, fiiiiinally finished all my college training, my intentions are to eventually relocate out west, ideally California. Of course...it's sorta falling apart at the seams at the moment, but I'm thinking it might be a good idea to stay in this general vicinity for a while anyway until post-graduation finances have settled a bit. Making the huge leap into such a higher cost of living probably shouldn't be rushed either, and besides, it's the perfect excuse to spend a few more golden years with the family, as it were (as golden as they get that is lol).
I've seen a lot of technology jobs down in the Indy/Carmel area, and Indy is the one and only place in the state larger than Fort Wayne, so it seems the next most logical step to take. It may or may not be a good thing, but Indy does also seem to be some sort of gay mecca for the many gay hoosiers roaming the state lol.
As for out west, the long and short of it is that I just wasn't destined to spend the rest of my life being brutalized by these relentless Indiana winters. I am bound for broader horizons and warmer weather lol.
I’m really good at
I'm also pretty good fixing things. Mom always used to call me her little Mr. Fixit. I guess that's the engineering part of me that comes hardwired in. I always enjoyed taking things apart to see how they work ....though getting them back together is another story entirely. Ok well, in retrospect, maybe I didn't actually fix as many things as I thought after all, haha!
And damn it, I'd like to think I'm pretty good at being a friend too. Of course I can disappear under the radar with schoolwork at times...
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I don't read many novels. I think perhaps when I'm done reading all these damned textbooks, I'll have the time and mental energy to start working on the growing pile of books that interest me though. The last one I read was Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America, and the one I'm currently working on (but not really) is Socrates in Love: Philosophy for the Passionate Heart.
Movies: I like too many to call just one my favorite, but in terms of romance, Latter Days has to be one of the most romantic movies ever. Trick was also good...and Braveheart...and Lord of the Rings...and Lucky Number Sleven...and...Moulin Rouge...and Across the Universe
Music (including but not limited to): Incubus, Jet, Ozzy, Three Days Grace, Andrew W.K., Hinder, 3 Doors Down, Guster, Good Charlette, Goo Goo Dolls, Bryan Adams, Foo Fighters, Powerman 5000, DJ Sammy, Depeche Mode, Danko Jones, Coldplay, Imogen Heap, Aqualung, Ashlee Simpson, Anastacia, Amber, Journey, 4 Strings, 311, 30 Seconds To Mars, Melanie C, Three Days Grace, The Sunstreak, Rascal Flats, Michael Buble, Linkin Park, Emerson Drive, Keane, Breaking Benjamin, Moby, Blink 182, BT, Cascada, DHT, N-Trance, Pink Floyd, QED, Metallica, Rise Against, Royksopp, Avril Lavigne, Snow Patrol, Drowning Pool, Sum 41, The Killers, Finley Quaye, The Veronicas, My Chemical Romance, DJ Tiesto, Ultrabeat, Wolfmother, Yellowcard, Buckcherry, Basshunter, Pink, The All-American Rejects, AC/DC, and some others. (Hey, I told you it was an eclectic taste haha!)
Food: I have Italian heritage. I'm not sure if that's why I love Italian food so much, but I do. I'm a simple person at heart though, and I thoroughly enjoy a good burger. And pizza is of course a classic for any college student.
The six things I could never do without
Friends - Who can do without these?
Computers - I'm a geek at heart, what can I say? I use my computer to do all kinds of things...which will also include making a living.
Music - Can you imagine how dull life would be without music?
Car - My car is like an appendage. I'd be lost without it.
Money - Money cant buy happiness, but let's face it, it sure cant hurt! I'm going to college to support the lifestyle I want to live, which as it turns out can get expensive with all the traveling and all.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Oh, and I use herbal remedies to treat my insomnia that some people find controversial. Personally, I don't think any plant that grows in the ground should ever be illegal, but what do I know anyway?
Oh, and don't let my experiences fool you, I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination. At least not in terms of finances...
