My self-summary
In a team meeting in school, we had to discuss our Myers-Briggs personality types. The last sentence of the description of mine says, "Champions are positive, exuberant people, and often their confidence in the goodness of life and of human nature makes good things happen." I love that description of me, and I try to live by it.

I'm a geek at heart=. I'm a techie and love taking in pop culture, but my parents have instilled in me a great appreciation of traveling and the outdoors. I like to think I'm a pretty nice guy, but I have a very biting and sarcastic sense of humor to me. I'm a Philadelphia sports fan, but I'm also one of the more satirical sports fans you will ever met. I have a great appreciation for the arts but sadly not the talent to equal it. I don't drink all that often, but when I do whiskey and craft beer is my drink of choice. Curiosity drives me, and I'm always up for trying to figure out how to do something I've never done before. Right now I'm an NSO for a roller derby league, and I'm learning to skate. I need to devote more time for that. I'm starting to get back into running after a bit of a break from it. My time in San Francisco has made me killer at running up hills.

So, I have an amazingly wonderful lady in my life, mycargoesboom. I am definitely available for fun dates, but I want to be upfront about being in a relationship from the start. More than anything, I am just looking to meet awesome new friends and people to be active with in the area, whether it be platonic or date-like.

I'm big on sex-positivity, body-positivity, and feminism.
What I’m doing with my life
After finishing my master's in California, I just took a job as a web developer for a pretty amazing tech company in Conshohocken. It's a pretty awesome feeling not having much to complain about with my job. Next up is apartment-hunting.

I have a passion for education, technology, digital media and media literacy, and a few of my side endeavors currently focus on that.

I also have a ton of hobbies that I never have time to really keep up with (beyond roller derby, which is the dominating hobby), like traveling, photography, writing, Rock Band, Dance Central on the Kinect, Quizzo, writing, card and board games, film, exploring new places, German, etc.
I’m really good at
Computers and technology. Problem solving and writing algorithms. Researching how to do things I don't know how to do. Wordsmithing. Carrying myself with an appropriate amount of professionalism. Carrying myself with an inappropriate amount of humor. Winning at the claw game in arcades. Generally being in the right place at the right time.
The first things people usually notice about me
As I mentioned, I can be very satirical, and so I am often cracking the wise. Also, I'm generally a pretty light-hearted and easy-going guy (some would even say jolly), so I am usually pretty approachable.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
As you can tell from these lists, I am fan of pop culture. I love a good story told, regardless of the medium.

a) I'm going to go with authors instead of books - Chris Moore, Chuck Palahniuk, Chuck Klosterman, Stephen King, Tim Sandlin, J.D. Salinger, etc.

b) Garden State, Dr. Strangelove (I'm a big Kubrick fan), Donnie Darko, Up, The Dark Knight, Die Hard, Wall-E, Up, The Incredibles, Dark City, Iron Man, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Office Space, Playing By Heart, The Legend of 1900, Secretary, and I have a special appreciation for Doomsday.

c) Arrested Development, The Wire, The Office, 30 Rock, Doctor Who, Firefly, Burn Notice, Psych, Flight of the Conchords, Better Off Tead, Dexter, Torchwood, True Blood, Lie to Me, House, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and a bunch more that are sadly no longer on the air. I never thought I would see the day I went from loving Community to being sad that NBC renewed it (although now that Harmon is back it is better again).

d) Going to shows is a major passion of mine, so let's go with bands that I have seen shows that I have seen in the last year and a half or so: Copmany of Thieves, The Airbourne Toxic Event, Beirut, Fitz and the Tantrums, Florence + the Machine, Mumford and Sons, Of Monsters and Men, Alabama Shakes, Bon Iver, Laura Marling, Ingrid Michaelson, the amazing Firefly festival. Some planned upcoming shows: the Gaslight Anthem, Passion Pit, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, The Killers, the Lumineers.

e) I eat an unhealthy amount of cheese and potato dishes, but hopefully my recent running resurgence will help combat that. I love a good Tapas place, which is one of the reasons I also love Philly. Another big reason is my love of good craft beer. I also do have a bit of a sweet tooth too, thanks to my mother.
The six things I could never do without
my friends and family, derby, challenging work, runner's high, pop culture, passion
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where I am going in life, how I got to where I am, and how the world around me is doing. I also spend a lot of time problem-solving and trying to come up with the most efficient ways to do things.

I'm also always curious as to when Okcupid suggests that someone is like an 85% match but only a 40% friend match. Generally speaking, if I am going to date someone, I have to like spending time with them too. Does the computer think that we are so physically compatible that it'd make up for how awfully it otherwise thinks we'd get along?
On a typical Friday night I am
This could be so many things: seeing a concert, catching a good movie, going to Citizen's Bank Park, hanging out with friends, finding a place to sing some entertaining karaoke, attending one of the awesome fests (like Science Week or Beer Week) that Philly has to offer, etc. Saturdays are generally more filled with roller derby bouts. I'm always in motion, so I always treasure my down time too.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Proper usage of a semicolon turns me on; I just can't help it. Sometimes I listen to NPR podcasts (and recently also Savage Love-casts) while I run... I'm that cool.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 20–38
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
Well, if I did my job writing this profile (and you did your job reading it), you should have a pretty decent sense of whether or not we'd get along. And if one of us didn't do our job but you still have a sense you'd like to talk a little further, that definitely works too. I just love getting to know new people, so feel free to say hi.

Mostly I am just looking for awesome new people who are genuine, passionate about something (especially if you will teach me about it), open-minded, equality-minded and sex-positive. Also, you shouldn't mind a hyphen here or there.

Bonus points if you appreciate the absolute brilliant that is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak0fPHbFpbc

Finally, if you wanna start a group that goes to German beer halls throughout the city and practices speaking German, let me know.
