I want to make plans with you. I'm looking forward to our next hiking + sled adventure in the Adirondacks. It's in two weeks, right? We are planning a week at the beach in Delaware this summer. Don't forget that we are also saving money to climb Mt. Rainier this summer. This weekend we are meeting up with friends to do a 5 miler before the Super Bowl and lots of delicious IPA drinking. We want to sign up for a class together and learn how to make sushi. And when are we getting our next stamp in our passport? I'm thinking Cuba or Chile. Where do you want to go next?
What I’m doing with my life
I teach. I teach math. I like math and teaching but I don't love either. I love working with my youth. I love that everyday I wake up and know that on some level I am busting my ass to right inequities. Sure my students mostly come from low-income families and their skin color makes it easier for them to get into prison than college but we laugh in the face of the odds. They are working as hard as their counterparts in Andover, Newton, and Wellsley. They are as prepared. 100% of them pass the stupid MCAS. 100% of them are accepted to college. It's not perfect and not every student persists past their first year of college (yet) but it is bigger than me and that is important to me. I love my work.
I love sunshine. I love doing things in the sunshine especially hiking, running, backpacking, camping, and beach bumming. And I really do hike a lot. I really do love it. I've finished the New Hampshire 48 4000 footers. I am working on the New England 67, the Adirondacks 46, and the New Hampshire winter 48. I can't wait to hike out west. Hopefully this summer.
I’m really good at
working with young people, organizing stuff, walking, laying down at the beach while reading a book, sleeping, summit-ting mountains, sipping iced tea, over-thinking, being loyal,...
The first things people usually notice about me
my smile or my hair
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Book: The Stand by Stephen King
Television: Arrested Development
Food: I love food!!! I'm partial to a New York style everything bagel toasted with cream cheese and a great burger. Not usually at the same time but now I think about it...I wonder how a burger on an everything bagel with cream cheese would taste!
The six things I could never do without
2. Unsweetened Iced Tea
4. My Phone
5. Hiking boots
I spend a lot of time thinking about
~how to reach a particular student
~what's for dinner
On a typical Friday night I am
On my way to the mountains, or at Lord Hobo in Cambridge with work friends, or barbecuing in the back yard, or meeting you?
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
my family and I have written our own silly family songs that we sing impulsively; these songs usually involve bawking like a chicken. How's your bawk?
You should message me if
you want to be deeply in love and you are excited to have kids.
