I am amiable, clever, and relaxed.
My Self-Summary
I am a nice guy; frequently, I am a little too nice and it works to
my detriment. I am very laid back and relaxed, to the point that I
can be a bit lazy. I can be a bit distant at first, but I can also
be a great friend if a person gets to know me.
I am smart and clever and a bit crafty. I can be a great
administrator and I can be terribly disorganized. I don't mind
working late or staying up late. In fact, I consider myself a night
owl, though I try to get to work on time and am very conscientious
about it.
I also can be quite flirtatious; I don't even realize it, but
friends of mine tell me that I will change my vocal tone and speech
patterns when talking to an attractive lady. Along those lines, I
am more social then I give myself credit for; I do get a bit
uncomfortable in big parties, but I am a pretty engaging
conversationalist and a pretty good debater. I am not stubborn
though, and if you make a good argument I might be convinced; on
the other hand, if I think you are being stubborn and are wrong, I
might just change the subject.
I was a vegetarian for a while, but I stopped after two years. I
have been thinking of starting again; I don't love beef or chicken,
but I do like fish an awful lot, so it is a big step.
Physically, I am a bit overweight and not especially tall. I am
working to change one of the two. So far, I have been modestly
successful, but it was hard to maintain it through the winter.
Trying to get back to it for the spring though.
I am at least somewhat interested in everything. People I know
sometimes accuse me of being a generalist. They are not wrong,
though I would argue the point if we were face to face. I am also
adverse to being specific. I don't really love the idea of
declaring things true or right. I typically soften it with a
'probably'. I blame my science background.
What I’m doing with my life
I am in graduate school for a PhD, and in case I neglected to say
so elsewhere, I am working as a
biologist. I took a lot of chem as an
undergrad, but grew tired of it, so I decided on biology. Right
now, I am studying brain cancer. I am interested in what causes
cancer to grow and how it differs between each patient.
I’m really good at
So, lets start with the basics. I am doing science professionally.
I am good at it. One day, I plan to be a white-coat or a teacher at
a university, though I don't really know which. White-coat sounds
more sinister.
I am evidently creative. I am decent at painting, and excellent at
storytelling, either semi-honest narratives or completely novel
fiction.
There are other things I am good at that are more physical,
including back rubs. I give back rubs, and most people like them.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't really know. Hopefully it is something positive. If it is
my eyes, then you win.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
A: I grew up on
Dune
and
Ender's
Game, then swapped over to
Terry Pratchett and
Neil Gaiman. I have
recently been reading non-fiction and philosophy.
B: I like most movies except for drama and romance movies. I
especially like Westerns. I am more of a Clint Eastwood type, less
of the John Wayne type.
C: Of late, I have been listening primarily to Tom Waits, Wolves in
the Throne Room, and Laura Barett. Even more recently, I have added
Kanye West. Still like the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zeppelin,
Iron Maiden and more than I want to write out. Still sing the music
to Hair when bored. In the summer, I cruise with the windows down
and play the Beach Boys.
D: I like almost any kind of food, but prefer exotic dishes, such
as indian and japanese food. I am really sensitive to spicy food,
but I like it none-the-less.
The six things I could never do without
Pragmatism and Autonomy, Family and Friends, Logic and Creativity.
Is that vague enough?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Science, machines,
robots, the end of the world, what I
would do with superpowers, what superpower I would want, math,
cells, whether things exist, whether it matters if things exist,
and many other things. Rarely about my future. I
daydream often too. The
awesomeness of geometric means. Pirates, real and fake.
Also, I check my emails extremely frequently. So I probably am
thinking about email a lot.
On a typical Friday night I am
I am alone at home watching a movie, or hanging out with two or
three people at someones house, or at the bar with people from
work.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I really enjoy old fashioned
logic puzzles, like the ones with
a lady and a tiger behind two doors, and only a few clues to guide
you.
I use the phrase
smooching in conversation.
I live in a
coop.
You should message me if
Do I have some mysterious allure that even I am unaware of? If so,
then send me a message.
Also, if you read the entire profile and were undecided about
sending me a message, you should send me a message.
I think it is cool when other people are willing to say hello.
