My self-summary
I am a volunteer flag mod here, so if you see I've looked at your profile it's probably because I was double-checking before voting to keep or delete a picture someone else flagged. Of course, if you're a guy it's probably that I saw your username come up on a blog somewhere along with screen-captures showing you being an ass to a woman. Feel free to ask me which one it was. If it was about pictures I can help give you a better idea of what will pass and what won't. If it's about being an ass to women you're on your own. If you genuinely want to stop doing that Google can give you more information on that subject than I ever could.

As for me:
Since I got out of the Army a few years ago I've been a bit of a shut-in. I'd love to have a friend or three to get out of my house with. I have a fairly decent sense of humor and would really like someone to share it with.

Ideally, I'd like to find someone I can talk "left wing" politics and social and economic justice with, perhaps even as a co-host of my podcast. I've found that I do much better with someone to talk with. Audiences enjoy that dynamic more as well and, as a beneficiary of nearly every kind of privilege there is, I'd really appreciate a viewpoint I don't naturally see.

In the interest of brevity here I've moved a portion of my self-summary to my journal: http://www.okcupid.com/profile/tantalus0971/journal/7818036845067959018/Some-of-the-Labels-I-Wear
What I’m doing with my life
I've finished building my Part 15 AM radio station, so now I'm putting together playlists from the more than 2000 songs, radio plays, speeches, samples and sound effects that I've collected over years of podcasting and online broadcasting. At present my signal coverage is about a block but in the spring I plan to move to a place where I can put up a more effective antenna. That should extend my range to roughly a half mile radius, at a minimum.

I'm also doing some research to see if I can replicate something like Portland's Red & Black Cafe here in Eugene.
(More information here: www.redandblackcafe.com/about/)

Now that I've seen how much Alec Baldwin has come to resemble certain portraits of former President Millard Fillmore I'm also thinking of reviving my long-ago abandoned "Millard and Lajos Go To White Castle" spec script.
I’m really good at
I'm good at recognizing people here from their profiles on other, more "adult," dating and social networking sites.

I'm pretty good at podcasting. I'm working on a new one now, but I used to do a leftist political podcast while I was last in Iraq. It was quite popular and the archive can be found at godlesskinser.podomatic.com.
The first things people usually notice about me
I am remarkably unremarkable at first glance. If I hadn't been such a slacker when I was young my average height and build, brown hair and brown eyes could probably have helped to make me a somewhat successful spy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
It's been far too long since I last did any significant amount of reading for pleasure, but I would have to say that Peter Gelderloos is probably my favorite author if I didn't have time to think too deeply about it.

My taste in movies always led to the other members of my Platoon not borrowing them because they were "confusing" or made them "have to think too much." Nowadays I rarely watch works of fiction. For some reason I can't really seem to get into anything that I haven't already seen unless it's a documentary. I used to be able to enjoy non-fiction, though, and off the top of my head I would have to say that my current favorite movie is either "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen " or "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (because that movie was the first example proving that special effects had finally caught up to what was then my favorite drug).

I grew up with an addiction to older punk (80s hardcore) and 90s industrial, but enjoy classical on occasion. (I played French Horn for seven years in school and still enjoy a grand, bombastic symphonic piece now and again.) I enjoy songs from many other genres, but only if the musicians seem to have a passion for it. I enjoy "angry" music if it's angry with a purpose.

I learned at an early age that food is a pretty good thing to put in your mouth. I especially enjoy Japanese, Hawaiian and Korean cuisine. I absolutely love kimchi, though more the radish or cucumber than the cabbage. I learned to love most Asian foods while stationed in Hawaii many years ago and later in Korea in 2000-2001. I'm a bit burned out on traditional Italian, but I still love the usual Italian herbs and seasonings. Baked goods, especially dessert pastries, are one of my greatest weaknesses.

I haven't had cable since 2009 and can't remember the last time I turned on my TV for something other than playing video games with my sons. Back when I used to have cable, though, and was watching something on television other than C-Span or news, I preferred things like Dr. Who, The Venture Brothers, Futurama, Arrested Development, Blackadder, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, MST3K, Cowboy Bebop, Martian Successor Nadesico, Robotech, History Channel stuff, true crime stuff, atypical comedy...
The six things I could never do without
Time with my sons (when I can get it), Polynesian Cheese Devils, new information, the occasional Gansito, a weekly bottle of Sidral Mundet or Martinelli's and something else, which is probably my Nook HD, since it got me to finally start reading for pleasure again. (This is pure hyperbole, of course, and will literally be the cause of my neck spontaneously imploding.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why did OKC insist on repeatedly showing me someone in the "You might like" suggestions who's rated as 86% enemy and only a 7% match, and why are only three of the twenty-five people shown in the "Recent Activity" on my home page actually in Oregon? Why is only one of them less than a hundred miles away? I have my preferences set to the closest distance it allows so it makes no sense to me.

Also Eggloaf. Your modern world frightens and confuses me.

On a typical Friday night I am
If I'm not playing games with my sons I'm probably catching up on the week's political news online.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'll tell you three, because I'm open and giving or something.

1) As a native Oregonian it's probably blasphemy to say this, but I don't particularly enjoy hiking, biking, camping, hunting or fishing. I literally spent years living in the woods or desert while in the Army (for roughly two years of that time I slept directly on the ground), so now most outdoor activities just feel like work to me. I'd much rather be in a pub or coffeehouse than being reminded of those far-less-than-noble years of my life.

2) I have a fake female profile on another site (using a picture borrowed from a woman friend) just so I can see how awful other men are to women online. Because I never reply to their messages I get a LOT of threats. Those profiles always talk a great game about respecting women, too.

3) I once dated a masochist/"slave" (who was also a clown) for several months. She's one of the kindest hearts I've ever known and also one of the most brilliant minds I've ever encountered, as well.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 25–50
  • Near me
  • For new friends, short-term dating
You should message me if
Sorry, but I'm all out of the fake mustaches now, so you should probably contact me if you'd like to talk "left wing" politics and maybe co-host a podcast or online radio show. Don't worry too much about the age range in the "I'm looking for" section up there. If you're interested in conversing, go right ahead.

I just recently got out of a five year long FWB arrangement, so I suppose I could always use another one of those if you're interested. Be advised, though. I can be a little rough.

If you can distinguish and give a basic definition of the three individual components of the term "anarcommuniscordian" (and would like to help me figure out just what the hell the combination of them would look like) I would absolutely love to hear from you.
