It's been far too long since I last did any significant amount of
reading for pleasure, but I would have to say that Peter Gelderloos
probably my favorite author if I didn't have time to think too
deeply about it.
My taste in movies always led to the other members of my Platoon
not borrowing them because they were "confusing" or made them "have
to think too much." Nowadays I rarely watch works of fiction. For
some reason I can't really seem to get into anything that I haven't
already seen unless it's a documentary. I used to be able to enjoy
non-fiction, though, and off the top of my head I would have to say
that my current favorite movie is either "The Adventures of Baron
Munchausen " or "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (because that
movie was the first example proving that special effects had
finally caught up to what was then my favorite drug).
I grew up with an addiction to older punk (80s hardcore
) and 90s industrial
, but enjoy
classical on occasion. (I played French Horn for seven years in
school and still enjoy a grand, bombastic symphonic piece now and
again.) I enjoy songs from many other genres, but only if the
musicians seem to have a passion for it. I enjoy "angry" music if
it's angry with a purpose.
I learned at an early age that food is a pretty good thing to put
in your mouth. I especially enjoy Japanese, Hawaiian and Korean
cuisine. I absolutely love kimchi
, though more the radish or
cucumber than the cabbage. I learned to love most Asian foods while
stationed in Hawaii many years ago and later in Korea in 2000-2001.
I'm a bit burned out on traditional Italian, but I still love the
usual Italian herbs and seasonings. Baked goods
, especially dessert
pastries, are one of my greatest weaknesses.
I haven't had cable since 2009 and can't remember the last time I
turned on my TV for something other than playing video games with
my sons. Back when I used to have cable, though, and was watching
something on television other than C-Span or news, I preferred
things like Dr.
, The Venture Brothers
, It's Always
Sunny in Philadelphia
, Cowboy Bebop, Martian Successor
Nadesico, Robotech, History Channel stuff, true crime stuff,
