When a couple splits up, who should keep the children?

• The mother
• The children should choose who they live with
• Whoever was not responsible for breaking up
• Someone else (eg grandparents)

Excellent sexist answers. I notice that the father is not even an option in this scenario. My REAL answer would be: The parents should be granted equal shared custody, unless substantial evidence is offered to show that would be unwise.
