My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm fiercely intelligent, reasonably cultured (only reasonably, mind!), and possess both a dark sense of humour (think Chris Morris, Viz and the League of Gentlemen and you're getting there), and a well-developed capacity for silliness - and seriousness - of all kinds.

I divide my time between Barnet (where I work) and Cardiff (where my bands and family are located).
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I support myself by teaching History for abysmal wages and with no security at a couple of unis and doing a fair bit of painting and decorating (which is my original trade).

My research intersts are left-wing anti-modernism and the 'new left' of the post-1956 period.

I also play drums in two well-regarded - and rather different - bands.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
My vocation

Drumming

Getting into all kinds of scrapes

Looking like a superannuated mod when I'm scrubbed up. (I have a thing for the looks of the 50s and 60s. It's the skinny ties that are to blame, I guess ...)

Cooking for and fussing over others

Being inappropriate

Being a Dad

Being fat, yet sexy with it (apparently - personally, I'm not at all sure that my friend Beta is correct in asserting this. Actually, I think that 'pleasingly ugly' would be a far better description ...)

I'm great at being inappropriate

I'm fat, yet sexy with it (No, make that 'I'm pleasingly ugly')

I'm intelligent, but can be fabulously low-brow

I'm quite the contrarian

Whilst I might be on the left, I'm certainly not of it

Books: Graham Greene, Iain Banks, Eric Hobsbawm, Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine, John le Carre, Irvine Welsh, KJ Parker, Ken MacLeod, Frank Furedi.

Film: The Name of the Rose, Ice Cold in Alex, The Devils, The Wicker Man, anything by Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock and David Lean - and any number of fair-to-middling war, sci-fi and horror flicks. I must confess that I have a problem with rom-com, but hey - I'm willing to compromise now and again.

TV: I'm not a huge TV person - I'd much rather be doing something, if I'm honest - but I do know what I like. Likes include: League of Gentlemen, anything involving Chris Morris, Dad's Army, Porridge, The Wire, Battlestar Galactica (sad, I know!), The Shield. Be warned that I positively LOATHE crime procedurals of the CSI/NCIS type ...

Music is really important to me, mainly because I love playing and performing. I have very broad - and not especially 'hip' - tastes: Bowie, 50s and 60s guitar pop and soul, bits and pieces of punk/new wave. I also have a great sense of rhythm, which I get to exercise at lots of gigs - indeed, the extent of my mid-life crisis is such that I'm two bands. I usually play at Glastonbury and Bestival each year, too - which I not only get paid for (ha!), but is also tremendous fun. I love live music in small venues too.

You have a thing for annoyingly bright men who are going to seed.

And if you're as happy at an intimate gig in a dingy bar as you are at an art gallery or museum. And able to comfortably shift from high-brow to low-brow.

As big a fan of the bacon sarnie as you are of cordon bleu?

Impetuous, passionate and risk-taking, yet also trusting, trustworthy and considerate?

Fond of philosophising over the odd pint or three?

Well, if the answer to at least some (if not all) of the above questions is 'yes', then why not get in touch?

This articulate, intelligent, musical, reasonably cultured and, in certain respects, not-quite-so-grown-up-as-he-should-be guy in his 40s would love to hear from you!

Over to you ...
