My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hello! Thank you for taking a look at my profile!

I moved back to Eugene from the San Francisco Bay Area last year and I'm exploring the new and revisiting old favorites in the area.

I asked some friends to give me an idea of how they view me. Some gave me one word adjectives and some gave me paragraphs.
-Has a lot of empathy
-A great friend
-He knows what he wants and is willing to work for it
-Good listener
-A smart, kind guy who will help you out at the drop of a hat. He can fix anything in your house and then turn around and make great crepes. He isn't judgmental and is kind to others, not just those he knows.
-Great teacher
-He is kind of like Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation
-A true friend
-Good in an emergency
-An amazing guy. Even more amazing is that he is single. He listens, doesn't talk too much, fixes things, can move stuff, and he cooks!

Friends are so great. Of course if they didn't think I was a good person they probably wouldn't be friends with me, so they are probably a little biased.

My self description is that I am:
-Can I say I'm smart/intelligent without sounding like I'm really into myself?
-Inquisitive (I really like learning about many different things)
-Loyal (to a fault, at times)
-Artistic (I like being creative)
-Creative (creativity is great for the brain)
-I like to think I'm funny. I can get a classroom of students laughing.

I'm more of a country guy than city.
I clean up alright, but I really prefer to be wearing shorts/jeans and a t-shirt.
I really don't know much about pop culture.
I don't know the lyrics to many songs, and I'm cool with that.
I prefer to be outside as opposed to being inside.
I haven't owned a tv in over seven years, but I do occasionally watch a few shows online.
My brothers are my best friends.
I try to feed my creative and artistic side while balancing it with my logical, scientific side. It works well for me.
I enjoy trying new activities which has led to many different outdoor activities. Anyone up for rock climbing, white water kayaking or rafting, hang gliding, mountain biking, scuba diving, snowboarding?
I try to do my part to save/sustain the earth.
I will go out of my way to do anything for a friend.
I'm concerned about our current education system and where it is headed.
I know a lot of people, but only consider a handful of them to be real friends.
I see myself building a house out in the country in the future.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Exploring, writing, reading, woodworking, bicycling, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, hiking, camping, being with friends and family, gardening, finding new adventures, meeting new people.

I left my job as an elementary school teacher to work at NASA. It was a big change, to say the least. I really like my job, very interesting. Update: laid off from NASA due to budget cuts and my program being shutdown. Back in Eugene.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
-fixing things- I can fix almost anything. Growing up, Macguyver was a favorite TV show
-building things- I was/am a carpenter and woodworker
-teaching- I really enjoy teaching little kids through college students
-achieving goals- once I make a decision to do something nothing can stop me
-putting people at ease- my down-to-earth and grounded nature tends to let people put down their guard and be themselves
-being and remaining calm, especially in an emergency.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm not really sure. I've been told I have long eye lashes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Favorites in General:
Being active, bicycling, riding my motorcycle, teaching, learning, discovering something new, traveling, road trips, good books, down time, building things, my hot tub, smell of the first rain, camping, challenging myself, great music, family and friends...

I choose food types indiscriminately; as long as it's good. I like all kinds of food and am amazed at the variety of foods offered in the bay area. I am in search of the best pad thai around. I think I found it but am open to suggestions.

I'm horrible at remembering authors and titles. Personally I read a lot more non-fiction than fiction, but do have some favorite books and authors. Christopher Moore, S.E. Hinton (when I was a teenager), Tom Robbins, Stephen Hunter, Some Dan Brown. I find it hard to find an author I like, but when I do I read all their books.
I read a lot of non-fiction about all kinds of subjects: science; art; engineering; history; the environment; travel; etc.
As a former teacher I have a very large list of favorite books. Some of the best books I've ever read were for elementary school children, but were very useful for any age.

I don't own a television, but I will occasionally watch tv shows on hulu or netflix. I like Modern Family, Parks and Recreation and The Daily Show.

I'm pretty open to music and will listen to almost anything. However, I'm not a big fan of jazz or most country. Favorites would be blues, rock, 80's, and when the mood strikes house/techno/trance etc.
Some of my most played Pandora stations are Bruce Springsteen, Michael Franti, Muddy Waters, and The Lumineers.

I do like movies and have a large list of favorites, with no genre standing out above the rest (I don't like horror movies).
Some favorites are Dumb and Dumber, Planet Earth, Rudy, Goonies, She's out of my League, I Love You Man, Role Models, Whale Rider, The World's Fastest Indian, Heat, The Wedding Singer, Goonies, Stand By Me (filmed near my hometown in Oregon), Sixteen Candles, Back to the Future, Grosse Pointe Blank, Scrooged, Better Off Dead, the original Star Was trilogy, There's Something about Mary, Forrest Gump, Willow, Adventures in Babysitting, Up and more.

I listen to NPR daily and love watching TED talks.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Family and friends, of course
Imagination and creativity
Getting out to the country
My tools
I really like my bikes
Goals (a little like purpose, but not exactly)
Time to recuperate/reenergize (see getting out to the country)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
In no particular order I think about:
-Our education system and what I can do to improve it
-Space; I worked at NASA
-road trips
-what goals I have accomplished
-what new goals I have to set
-Why so many women on OKC list parallel parking as something they are really good at (is that a dating requirement?)
-how to be a better person
-where Waldo really is
-why people eat total garbage but choose only the best for their car
-what kind of creative project I can do
-what to write on my okcupid profile
-why chocolate and peanut butter taste so good
-how my family is doing
-if it is time for me to get a dog (update: I've got a giant puppy!)
-why the apostrophe is not working in this box
-what would be fun to do today
-what can I accomplish today, tomorrow, a year from now
-long term plans
-right now plans
-what would be a good book to read
Whew, ok that is what I was thinking in the last minute. I like thinking.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Not really private, but a little interesting.

-I pay attention to the, "You should message me," portion of profiles because that is where you use your own thoughts/words to explain what you're looking for.
-I once performed the heimlich maneuver on my brother. Yep, it was a success; he's still alive.
You should message me if
