I'm traveling for a month in China (till mid January 2016) so I don't expect to be on here or responding to messages. Have happy holidays and a prosperous New year!
I'm passionate about education, languages, current events, social justice, and building a community that we can be proud of.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm teaching English to adults. It's really rewarding and fun! I've got students who speak Spanish, Korean, Turkish, Arabic, Russian, and Portuguese, and I love learning about my students' home cultures and their experiences here in this country.
I'm also camping, reading, cycling, swimming... sometimes trying to dance. I play cello but not enough.
I’m really good at
building on other people's ideas and creating things... solutions
to problems, poems, lessons, improvised songs. I love working with
The first things people usually notice about me
glasses. Or if the person is tall then she can see that my hair is getting pretty thin.

Books by Alice Walker, Kurt Vonnegut, Neil Gaiman, Maya Angelou, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Michael Chabon, Mario Vargas Llosa, Anne Lamott, Haruki Murakami, and Terry Pratchett...
Poetry by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, I'rene Lara Silva, Joaquin Zihuatanejo, James Dickey, Rumi,
Movies: City of the Lost Children, Amores Perros, The Big Lebowsky, Howl's Moving Castle. I just saw Our Man in Havana, and it was hilarious.
Local Music: Atosh, Bamako Airlines, White Ghost Shivers, Brave Combo (not Austin, but Texas)
From farther afield... Café Tacuba, Aesop Rock, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pixies, Sonic Youth, La Santa Cecilia, Dvorak, Bach cello suites, Stevie Wonder, Fats Waller, Thelonious Monk, Los de Abajo, MC Solaar, Ceschi, Os Mutantes, Bob Wills...
Music, movies, poetry, and books are important to me, and I love finding new ones.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
what's going on in Austin and around the world. Why and how people do what we do.
On a typical Friday night I am
playing with my friends' dogs and watching a movie, hanging at a bars or checking out a play.
You should message me if
you want to. I love getting messages from people on here, and I tend to like strong women who put themselves out there. If you have a book, play, or song to recommend, I'd love to hear about it!
