My self-summary Propose an edit
Fall is in full swing, and I love it. I've put away my suitcases of
bathing suits, fun-dip, and flip flops and pulled out my teachin'
clothes. I must say, now that I'm teaching Kindergarten instead of
already-traumatized-by-school fourth graders, work is a much more
easy going operation. For example, I dance the hokey pokey pretty
much every day. How great is that?
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I am a New York City
Public School Teacher. So I always have ridiculous stories
about things the kids have done lately. Example: One of my students
cut off a piece of his chin with those child-proof scissors that
normally couldn't cut butter. After he ran to the nurse, his
neighobor raised her hand to gasp, "Robert's chin is on the table!"
Yes, I had to pick up a piece of face with a paper towel.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I'm really good at getting song and movie quote references.
I'm expert at making useless things out of found objects (wine cork
bulletin board, anyone?).
I sing a mean "We Don't Need Another Hero" at karaoke.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
I laugh loud and long.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I am addicted to children's literature, and have re-read most of
the books from my childhood in the past year or two. Lloyd
Alexander is an underrated genius! Yes, yes, I do read adult books,
too. I just zipped through "About a Boy," (*HILARIOUS!*), and am
now reading some Jonathon Lethem, along with "Perfect Anxiety:
Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety." That's right! I'm mixing it up!
I'm really excited to read the new biography of Andrew Carnegie.
Basically I want to be entertained and educated in my reading. I'm
thinking about breaking down and reading Twilight. Millions of
teenagers can't be ALL wrong.
I love all kinds of food, and crave spicy Indian, Thai, Vietnamese,
Japanese, Mexican, or Korean. And lots of other kinds, though as a
vegetarian I'm not that into steakhouses, etc. I've eaten there,
but I'm just not so happy about it.
I have lots of ridiculous comedies in my favorites-- Groundhog's
Day, What
About Bob, Rushmore. I'll watch pretty much
anything with Bill
Murray in it. I also love Spirited Away, Heathers, Beetlejuice, The Lord of the Rings,
Lost, and a laughable
array of too-cheesy romantic comedies. I just got cable, so I have
a brand new array of entertainment options! I'm working my way
through classics such as Hud, Gaslight and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. As
well as Scrubs
reruns and The
Office.DVR rocks!
Lately I've been playing with Pandora a lot, and am finally getting
some interesting stations. Right now my favorite is a mix of
Regina
Spektor, Liz
Phair, Tina
Turner, Rilo
Kiley, Rihanna, Cyndi Lauper, PJ Harvey, Chris Brown, Neyo and Lucinda Williams. It's amazing.
My other favorite station has The Killers, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Green Day, Nirvana, Death Cab for Cutie, and
Fall Out
Boy. As you might be able to tell, I like variety. I hear it's
the spice of life.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
A metrocard, hot sauce (and other condiments), my ipod, something
to read (cereal box or Tolstoy, it doesn't matter!), a job I love,
and vacation plans.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
I spend a lot of time thinking about song lyrics. I think my life
is pretty well soundtracked in my head. And on my Ipod.
I think about the best commute. Subway? Bus? Foot? A combination of
the three? Should I transfer at the next station, or at the next
transfer? Should I bother transferring at all? Wait, at what time
does the B stop running? Why doesn't the B run on weekends? What's
up with the M train?
I think a lot about what I'm doing and where I'm going. Do I want
to take a class at FIT to learn jewelry making? Should I go back to
school and get a PHD? In what? Move to a new city? Could any city
be better than New York? How long do you have to live here before
you're officially a New Yorker? Should I sign up for that Spanish
class? Volunteer on the weekends? Is my time over-scheduled? Is it
too early to go to bed?
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
I tend to meet up with teacher friends from various schools on
Friday nights, for early drinks, a discussion of the week's
nonsense, and dinner. I tend to be in bed early on Fridays, so that
I can really get things done on Saturdays. Saturdays I'm running
around, doing errands, going to the gym, meeting for brunch/lunch/dinner/drinks
or all of the above. I also generally have some sort of outing
planned- a friend's show or play or band or party or birthday or
bizarre event.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm getting sick of the sort-of-lying of online dating. Like, if
you say you're five ten, and I meet you and you're shorter than me,
that sucks.
Honesty is HOT.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You can recommend the best "fill in the blank" restaurant in the
City. You think my music sucks or rocks, and you need to tell me
who else I SHOULD be listening to. You just read a great book that
changed your life. You've discovered a bar that has free peanuts
AND popcorn during happy hour, and you want to meet up for a
drink.
You're straightforward, nonsensical, and live in the greater New
York area. I consider anywhere outside of the 5 boroughs a long
distance relationship.
