My self-summary
I like ice cream and sarcasm, traveling and reading, soccer and nice guys.

I grew up in the US, in Iowa, but have lived in Europe, Latin America and now China. I am a middle school teacher and a decent amateur photographer - my big camera goes with me any time I travel. I run a non-profit community service organization in Paraguay that helps about 100 kids in a very poor neighborhood. I am a pretty low-maintenance girl; it doesn't take me 3 hours to be dressed and looking good for dinner. I play in a soccer league and coach the girl's soccer team at my school. I appreciate good wine and good conversation. I love Shanghai; it is a fabulous city and as long as I can avoid being spit on or run over by a taxi in the street, I consider it a good day.
What I’m doing with my life
I mold the minds of our youth - well, I do my best to help them get through middle school.
I’m really good at
Finding a different restaurant for every night of the week instead of buying groceries and actually cooking a meal.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Dave Eggers, Nick Hornby, Zadie Smith, David Sedaris, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Jeffery Eugenides. The Big Lebowski and all Coen Brothers, The Usual Suspects, Clueless, Kevin Smith, Wes Anderson, and Judd Apatow movies. PEARL JAM (I saw them at Wrigley Field in July, in LA last November and in Australia for Chinese New Year) and lots of random Spanish music. China has turned me into a vegetarian, but I still can't do tofu.
The six things I could never do without

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why no one wears a bike helmet in Shanghai.
On a typical Friday night I am
out to dinner. First time I have lived in a ginormous city with so many dining options.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I think left handedness is sexy.
